Nancy Salas Has Been Found Safe and Well But Police Now Reveal What Led to Her Disappearance

Nancy Salas went missing May 12 after going for a jog in the hills near her California home and her family contacted police after she did not come home for a few hours. They assumed the worst had happened to her, but when Nancy was found safe she told her parents and police that she had been kidnapped at knife-point by a stranger.

Well it turns out that story is not true and that Nancy made it up to avoid telling her parents she was no longer a student at UCLA. Her parents were planning a big party for her graduation next month and rather than tell them the truth she staged a kidnapping.

"It's kind of a tragedy," Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department said. "Here she was, the oldest daughter going to [the University of California, Los Angeles], and she was going to make it and be successful, and when she was no longer enrolled, she couldn't bear to tell anyone."

Sgt. Lorenz said that even when he told her parents they refused to believe it at first. He said this story is all about the pressures of being successful and wanting to please your parents.

Nancy Salas left UCLA in 2008 after a dispute over her scholarship and just did not tell anyone. She was found yesterday at a friend's house.

She has now been reunited with her family and will not face charges.
