A Small Plane Crashed into the Roof of the Naperville Fitness Center on Wednesday Afternoon; Luckily No One Was Killed

A man and a woman were pulled from the wreckage according to Chicago Breaking News, and both appear to be alive at this time.

The plane has been identified as a Piper 32 that came down on the roof of the XSport Facility at 2780 Fitness Drive and struck a tower on the southwest corner. It is not known why the plane crashed, but one witness said it had just taken off from a nearby private air strip and did not get enough air to get over the building.

Everyone inside the gym managed to get out safely and the plane did not pierce the gym roof, although witnesses did report the smell of gas and leaking water above their heads.

Steve Smith, manager of the Naper Aero Club, which owns a nearby airstrip, said he heard an airplane had gone down north of the strip. He declined to comment further.

NBCChicago released this amazing air photo of the plane crash:

Very strange, there seems to be a lot of open space to land a plane in the area.

it says there were taking off; not landing.

I actually live in the area of this crash and know where the xsports is. The Airport's landing/takeoff strip end is very close to the Xsports, so during takeoff, it flown right into it.
