How unfortunate it is to witness the birth of a new term ......Narco barricades.

Guadalajara´s night is full of fear and caution. Violence has been registered in seven different points of the capital of Jalisco in Mexico. Granades, shootouts, buses set on fire and barricades have caused panic. Tonight the streets are desolated, people have stayed home.

The Consulate has received initial reports of several fairly significant narco-related events around Guadalajara, in the areas near Plaza Mexico, downtown, and at an unspecified location on the Periferico. Our recommendation to all American citizens stay put while we gather more information. Anyone on the road should continue directly to the nearest safe area and stay put. As we develop more information we will share it with you.

The incidents which included a shootout between Mexican soldiers and a drug gang in the Zapopan neighborhood of Lomas Altas resulted in the arrest of several suspects.

Mexico's Defense Department announced the capture of the leader of the Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion, and his second in command.
