NASA ARES I-X Rocket Launch Delayed Again Until 11:30 AM
Despite delays, the rocket has now launched at 15:30 GMT on second attempt.
The NASA ARES I-X rocket launch was again delayed this morning. The rocket was supposed to launch at 8 AM local time from Kennedy Space Center. But, the launch was delayed again until 11:30 AM because of the continued concern over upper-level clouds, according to NASA. A couple of lightning strikes overnight and "inclement conditions" are what kept the rocket grounded. It is the expected some clearing will happen by the new takeoff time. The rocket was supposed to liftoff yesterday, but the takeoff was scrubbed over the triboelectrification fears and other technical difficulties. NASA mentioned that this time around only weather was in the way. The ARES rocket is part of the Constellation Program, the goal of which is to provide an alternative way for human-powered space flight once the shuttle program gets retired.
NASA will be airing the launch live via its NASA TV
