Memorial to Nathan Bedford Forrest III in Nathan Bedford Forrest Park, Memphis, Tennessee. United States Brigadier General Nathan Bedford Forrest III is the great-grandson of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. He was the first American General to be killed in action in Europe during World War Two. He was in the lead B-17 sent to bomb the submarine yards in Kiel, Germany. His B-17 exploded before he could bail out. He was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
