Pakistan forces Thursday fired at a NATO helicpoter in the border areas. This latest incident has created fear and terror in tribal areas as tribal elders think that this is the beginning of Pakistan and United States war.

Helicopters with a NATO-led force in Afghanistan were fired on from a Pakistan military checkpoint Thursday, the force said, adding there was no damage or casualties.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) stressed however that the helicopters had not crossed Pakistani airspace.

"ISAF helicopters received small-arms fire from a Pakistan military checkpoint along the border near Tanai district, Khost while conducting routine operations in Afghanistan," it said in a statement.

Pantagon termed fire at NATO helicopter unfortunate and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

An incident in which Pakistani soldiers fired on helicopters with a NATO-led force Thursday along the border with Afghanistan was "an unfortunate misunderstanding," a Pentagon spokesman said Thursday.

The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said its helicopters were conducting routine operations inside Afghanistan when they came under small arms fire from a Pakistani checkpoint along the border near Tanai distict in eastern Khost province.

"It appears to be an unfortunate misunderstanding," said Bryan Whitman, a Pentagon spokesman.

He said the US military "contacted the Pakistani military immediately after the incident from what I understand and they are working to ensure that the coordination measures are such that that doesn't happen in the future," he said.

The shooting has come amid heightened tensions along the border in the stepped up stepped up US missile strikes and a reported raid into Pakistan earlier this month by special operations forces.

Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari has said that Pakistan would not tolerate violations of its sovereignty.

No Pakistan -- USA war.  That would be pointless.

Of course it is VoiceforPeace..... America views Pakistan as terrorists, or they would not give India Nuclear Weapons Technology....Pakistan fires upon US forces because they feel threatened.. America gave Pakistan money to come up with obviously the fake bogeymen named binLadin who would never be found anyway.....so they can blame them for a failure in their forces to stop terrorism. This old trick is to convince world leaders the US has the right to now invade Pakistan because they can't stop the terrorist even after America gave them gobs of money to do it........ When Obama becomes President he will invade Pakistan.......That is unless Russia steps in and decides to help Pakistan... Mushareff did his job in killing Bhutto, because the world would not accept the US beating upon a woman leader or consider she is believable to support terrorist in Pakistan....So they got the New Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari to be the pawn for their next invasion... If Zardari was smart he would not shoot at US forces.....and US forces would not be able to find terrorists in Pakistan because there aren't any really. There is the problem that Pakistani people do not want to practice Gandhism by using Nonviolence as their weapon. In so doing would negate the idea to why they became a State in the first place.....In reality I think Pakistan should rejoin with India.....and stop this fighting...and bloodshed.....Nonviolence is right and correct...

Rev.
