Nestle Links With Mugabe's Wife
A report from the British Sunday Telegraph has revealed that the Swiss Multinational Company Nestle has been buying milk from a farm that was seized by the Zimbabwe Government and currently belongs to Grace Mugabe [wife of the Zimbabwean President].
It has been revealed that Nestle buys the milk on a cash basis. Nestle defends its decision on the basis of "preventing food shortages, loss of jobs". Nestle also contended that it had no other option but to buy in the opne market after the collapse of the Zimbabwe Economy.
Nestle has not been bound by any legislation which sanctions the Mugabe regime. It remains to be seen how Nestle will resolve its issue with milk so as to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest. It also remains to be seen how Nestle intends to do business when the economy in Zimbabwe rebounds.

Thanks for your comments. Roy C. For me, it is always a pleasure to report about some of the dealings between multinationals and dictatorships.

This is completely disgusting. Mugabe is repulsive, but not surprisingly so. Nestle: don't you know nearly 5 million zimbabweans are close to starvation? Even young innocent children, who are the same age as the pink-cheeked white kids you sell your milk to? Oh, right. I almost forgot. Corporations give a damn about anything that's not MARKETABLE.
Alvarez, thank you for posting this.

Nestles has a long history dealings in Africa and other third world countries. They had a campaign that marketed baby formula to poor popultions influencing mothers to not breast feed their babies stating formula was better.
This is not surprising. : (
I have not bought Nestles products for over twenty years.

Thank you for your comment. I would like to add that in addition to the campaign by Nestles to promote formula over breast feeding, there are cultures who have looked at breast feeding as "immoral". In addition to countering the claims of Nestles, educating the people about breast feeding helps as well.

When and how did Grace obtain these farms? Zim farmers were evicted so that acording to Robert Mugabe Zim people could uplift themselves out of poverty and have a better future. It seems that Zim belongs to Robert and Grace Mugabe and I suggest that the name of Zimbabwe be changed in history to RGMUGABE. Shame on you Nestle to support such a crime. I love nestle choc

The only product I bought from Nestle's many years ago was Nestle's Quick Chocolate or Strawberry mix to put in milk for my kids. But I stopped buying it years ago. I should have never bought it because it has too much sugar, but I didnt know that then.
Here is a list of Nestles products. : (
Prepare yourself because it is extensive.
