New Orleans Parrish Campaign For Coroner

The race for Coroner for New Orleans Parrish  has become truly bizarre and crazy. The coroner's race is a battle between 80 year old Frank Minyard v. 60 year old Dwight McKenna.

New Orleans Parrish has had Minyard as coroner for over 35 years. Minyard and the Memorial Medical Center gained some national attention during the Hurricane Katrina which devastated New Orleans in 2005.

Like many of New Orleans institutions Minyard's office has faced various allegations of corruption.  Minyard has gotten into trouble for withholding autopsy reports from media organizations, (something the coroner's office is obliged to do in a timely manner). But Frank Minyard's opponent Dwight McKenna was convicted of felony tax evasion charges. McKenna served six months in prison.
