U.S. Rep. William Jefferson
With his trial on federal corruption charges looming and questions swirling about his effectiveness in Congress, U.S. Rep. William Jefferson cruised to an easy victory Tuesday in the Democratic Party runoff for the 2nd Congressional District.

I feel this is newsworthy because it provides (further) evidence of the corruption in New Orleans (hence the federal government's reluctance to send billions of dollars there).

Not re-elected quite yet.

Jefferson will face off in December against Republican candidate Anh "Joseph" Cao, Green Party candidate Malik Rahim, Libertarian Party candidate Gregory Kahn and independent Jerry Jacobs.

Under new state rules, the primary was divided by party, and only registered Democrats and independents were allowed to vote in Tuesday's runoff. No other parties held primary contests because none had more than one candidate qualify.

All voters will be allowed to cast ballots in next month's winner-take-all contest. The district covers most of New Orleans, most of Jefferson Parish's West Bank and parts of south Kenner.

You may wish to change the news organization you use for election results.  How about still to NowPublic to get your news as Rene reported the results accurately.

Looks like some folks have wised up to voting for an indicted candidate.  The other big news is the GOP has i's first Vietnamese congressman,  I an glad to see diversity permeating the ranks of the GOP.  Thanks for the encouraging story.  I guess the one negative is that Congressman elect Cao out financed Jefferson.  I guess since his money was confiscated he had trouble financing his campaign.  The official complaint from the DNC is that since Obama has won that democrats have voter fatigue. Not that Congressman William Jefferson was a poor choice for election
