After the opposition in Moldova boycotted the Parliamentary Elections for President, there will be a new general election. The governing PCM [Communist Party of Moldova] was one vote short of electing their candidate Zinaida Greceani as President.

In the current rule, there should be 61 out of 101 votes from Parliament in order to elect a President. The PCM managed to obtain only 60 votes. With the failure of obtaining a majority, Parliament must be dissolved with new elections taking place.

Vladimir Voronin who is the current President of Moldova and belongs to PCM is forbidden by the Constitution from running for a third term. He is at the present time the Speaker of Parliament and he will be dissolving it for elections. He supported Ms. Greceani in the hopes of becoming a power behind the throne.
