A populist, grass-roots activism movement, called The "whY?" Movement has found its humble beginnings on Facebook. It's stated mission is to "inspire higher-order thinking in our society by encouraging people to analyze and question themselves".

To this end, the members/fans of the "why?" movement plan to spread awareness by displaying their "Y?" symbol (which they profess is the question "Why?" written in the "most concise possible way") as visibly as they can.

During a recent "National Day of Asking Society 'Why?'", they framed their philosophy as such:

Part of the reason that society is in such a mess is that people rarely ask themselves "why?"; "why do I believe this?", "why do I feel this way?", "why did/do I do that?".

For example, how many zealots, fanatics, or loyal followers do you think really ask themselves this question? Do you really think that this question is really on the mind of people like teapartiers, hippies, or religious extremists?
