New York political base supports Rangel at birthday party
By indication of support that Charlie Rangel received at his birthday party last night, he’s alive and well in his home bastion. That’s all that counts if all of that support translates into reelection.
If the people of New York City Harlem district believe Charlie is the best for them, that is their choice. If the Ethics Committee has evidence sufficient to throw Charlie out, they should move expeditiously to do this before the next election.
Charlie has served his country in extraordinary ways. His finessing the system for his personal advantage may or may not amount to his impeachment from office. An 80 year old has had a chance to show what he can do for his district. If the benefits add up, and people still think he can do more, more than any other candidate, then so be it, if he is innocent of wrongdoing.
I think his own recent behavior and performance demonstrates that his time in office should come to an end on his own, if not by his expulsion by voters.

Associated Press
NEW YORK -- New York's Democratic political establishment came out in force for embattled U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel on Wednesday, packing a sold-out fundraiser to praise Rangel's service to the city and state over a 40-year career recently tainted by ethics charges.
"I've been to a lot of funerals, and this damn sure isn't a funeral," Rangel said to loud cheers.”
