It seems Conan O'brien got Newark, New Jersey majory Cory Booker a little upset over a joke he made on the tonight show. The joke that insulted all of Newark read "The Mayor of Newark NJ wants to set up a city wide program to improve resident's health.....the health care program would consist of a bus ticket out of Newark!". You gotta admit, that's pretty funny. In obvious jest, Mayor Booker made a video defending his city and stating that Conan O'Brien is now on Newark's no fly list. I've only been to Newark a few times. Rarely have I had a reason to go there. But I have read that Booker has done a great job of cleaning up the city and that crime has gone way down since he took over. It would be interesting to hear from residents of Newark just how things have or haven't changed.

Personally, I would love a ticket out of Newark. Being born and raised here, I'm personally tired of the ebb and flow of promises and empty dreams. Not to mention being bored most of the time.

Interesting. So do you think Booker has done a good job though? Have you noticed improvements in the city at all?

well if you ask me newark still has some work to do but i feel that if you were not born in newark (which i was. south 7th st), you have never been to newark, or you have only been to newark once then you should not comment. and for the record just because you go through newark airport to get to your destination does not mean that you have been to newark. it only means that you passed through newark just to get on the plane.

I am from Newark and I am very proud of my city...yes, we have our fair share of crime, poverty, drug infested areas, dilapitated home etc. but what large city doesn't?!? We also have great places to eat, quaint shops, art galleries, nightlife and many prominent and successful companies are headquartered here, we have small theatre (Symphony Hall) where local arts and community events are showcased and a performing arts center (NJPAC) headlining some of the most sought after and diverse entertainment. We are home of the Prudential Center where many concerts, sporting events, and the circus entertain those from near and far and much more. Newark has birthed many successful entertainers humanitarians and comedians who come back home and feel "at home". Above all, Newark has a diverse community of people who are passionate, resilient, innovative and soulful. I'm personally a little tired of always hearing about what is "wrong" with Newark, but noone talks about what is right with Newark. Sure, we have our bad apples, but we will no longer stand to be bashed on television by anyone especially those who are not from our city!!! As far as the Mayor goes, I think he is doing a great job and yes, there is more work to do. We must be mindful that Rome wasn't built in a day. However, I do think that it would be advantageous for the Mayor to be more aggressive in hiring the residents within the community before allowing contractors from neighboring towns to rebuild our city, our home. BRICK CITY 4-EVA!!!

I've just watched a documentary called Brick City and fell in love with Newark and the people committed to make it better. I live in San Diego we would really benefit with a hands-on Mayor like Cory Booker his passion to help his city is contagious .... I'm jealous!
