Mayor Marcelo Ebrard informed that according to the testimonies gathered from the victims' families and investigation reports, he decide to accept the resignation of Ortega inspite of the fact that he did not ordered the failed operation.
He added that top city's prosecutor presented his resignation in relation to the case where 12 pewrsons died.
El jefe de Gobierno capitalino informó que de acuerdo con los testimonios que reunió con familias de las víctimas y los informes de las investigaciones decidió aceptar la renuncia de Ortega, a pesar de que él no implementó el fallido operativo.
Agregó que el titular de la Procuraduría capitalina, Rodolfo Félix Cárdenas, le presentó también su renuncia por el caso en el que murieron doce personas.
Guillermo Zayas, the senior police officer in charge of the raid, has been blamed for the deaths and is in jail accused of homicide. Another 18 police agents and the owner of the disco are also in prison awaiting trial.
Selling alcohol to people under 18 is illegal in Mexico and nightclubs are only allowed to operate within certain time limits. But those laws are largely ignored by bar and nightclub owners and police had sought to crack down on them.
