Nigerian President Dead? Reports of Brain Death Denied
Is the Nigerian President dead? Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua was hospitalized six weeks ago, and the rumor that the Nigerian President is dead began circulating Sunday, exacerbated by Government statements expressing uncertainty over Umaru Musa Yar'Adua's condition. Today, though, spokesman Olusegun Adeniyi stated that the Nigerian President is not dead, and is beginning to recover. Meanwhile, Nigeria's citizens are growing impatient over the government's stinginess with information, and are planning a rally to pressure further disclosure on what, exactly, is going on with their President.
With the President hospitalized in Saudi Arabia, Vice President Goodluck Jonathan is pretty much running the country, though he has not been explicitly granted executive powers.
The 58-year-old leader has not been seen or heard from publicly since leaving Nigeria on Nov. 23, leading to widespread speculation about his health.
Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, is rich in oil and considered very corrupt, with the nation's weilth funneling to an elite group of individuals.
At the moment, The Mail and Guardian has nothing on the subject.
I think it’s a bit difficult to say, because the information is coming from different sources, so it is not easy for us to navigate,” says Charles Dokubo, a government advisor and spokesman of the Nigerian Institute for Security Studies, a government think tank. “In this environment, you have to be careful what to say.”

If the Nigerian President(Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar'Adua (GCON) is trully the people mandate, then it is the mandate the of the people to know about his health situation and not for PDP or Power brokers to hide it in thier ancestral pocket.

our president is suppose to be our leader and our national father, hence his health status is therefore our concern. concieling the truth as regards his condition wheather dead or live shouldnt be electroplated from the people of Nigeria. There is absolutely nothing wrong in bringing it to the public. Which ever way he deserve our prayers. People should control what they say about our president until any vital and genue information is pass unto the public.

If really President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua is dead then we Nigerians have the right of a free flow of information....we shouldnt be kept in the loop. If he is dead let VP,Goodluck Johnathan assume the seat and if he isnt dead let him resign...the office of the president is not a position for someone that isnt 100% fit healthwise. Nigeria as a country have to move on.

Whether Mr Already dead President is still alive or not, We all knew since of his departure from Nigeria to unknown trace, We believed he dead, so lets the vice president Good Luck Johnathan assume the office. A country so big as a continent can't wait for a single already called Mr Prsident to rise from dead. For all so called Senators and House of Rep Are all bunch of Idiots.

If the president of a country or anybody is sick, it is the duty of the citizen to pray for him whenever they are praying. we should all remember he is a human being like anyone of us, so sickness is not what anybody prays for but when it comes we all pray to overcome. The Nigerian Citizen should know that if other conutry is having the same problem different presidents would have been showing there concerns but we don't even show signs of love especially the people at the top everybody is shouting death left and right why? if death will take place why not allow it to be from GOD and not because of selfish interest of power.Let there be love in our heart towards each other cause am sure if president yaradua is one of your simblings you would have been running helter skelter for his suvivial. if he's alife may the healing hand of the almighty God rest upon him. We all luv u Mr. president.

Verified or not verified, I'm suspecious about the health condition of the Nigerian president. I'm sure if the guy was doing ok, people in his circle wouldn't be so lip tied about his condition. By the way, do we know what the country's constitution says about the the vice presedent taking over the government in a situation like this, where the president is reported either dead or too sick to govern the country?

My own point of view that, if his dead or not I will advice him to authorized the vice to be continue on doing some work, cos the aim every one of them in the house both senate assembly is to get another person entirely to replace even jonathan so that they can be able to have access ti nigeria money that's why all this problem they all want to become president unexpectedly. They are even the one to say mr. President is dead which is not met to be cos no body is 100% health wise they should at least give him dome time. They are even the one announce that he has dead which had never confirm that is why people carry the rumor that he has dead. Instead they should be console Nigeria's. I pray that should take control of everything.
