Three days after the tragedy investigations are being made according to The Secretary of Urban House Development  the place was destined to be used only as green areas, construction licenses can not be issued for anything different.

In the mist of pain and tears of the horses' riders and jockeys who worked all night to save their horses, the bodies of horses are sent in trucks to be incinerated at the Veterinarian Faculty of UNAM. Mexican National Autonomous University. There were an average of 120 horses at the club, meaning half of them drowned when the flooding water reached two and a half meters of height.

The 60 year old  barn nightwatch Emilio Campos Ballesteros died trying to save the horses after heavy rain  flooded an equestrian club in Mexico City

Alrededor de 50 caballos pura sangre del Centro de Equitación La barranca, ubicado en los límites del Distrito Federal y el Estado de México, se ahogaron anoche tras las fuertes lluvias que se registraron en la Zona Metropolitana.
]

"A torrent of mud caused by heavy rains was too strong (for him) and he drowned along with between 50 and 60 horses," Mr Vilchis said.

The sadness of losing a friend.

Today is a sad day, the equestrian family feels sad. I the terrible events that took place at Club Hipico La Barranca, a human life was lost and dozens of horses.

Mr. EmilioCampos Ballesteros gave his life trying to save the horses trapped in the torrent. It is difficult to understand except for those who live on a daily basis with our horses as friends.

Oh my gosh - 50 to 60 horses! That's terrible. So sad.

Quite sad Amy.

The place where the club was built used to be a river many years ago, with all the flooding and weather changes, water took its course expectantly causing the tragedy.

patgarcia, I like this story. It's good stuff.

Not difficult to understand Pat, A Human being giving its life for a non Human being. I always had Horses and Sheep as well as Dogs and Cats, even a Parrot and a snake that needed rescuing and recently a Turtle that we rescued as well. They are part of the Family and friends and have as much rights to live and be as any Human would. Yes, there is a law of eat and be eaten and that is part of our existence. Respect and appreciation to a life is in dyer need in modern society or rather is lacking in a terrible way today.

Thanks a lot for the flag and your precise life appreciation comment. I couldn't rescue my 14 year old chow-chow.  Somebody shot her within the boundaries of my home. Burglars? Mean people? Who knows, I had a hard grieving process. So meditating on it  I agree with you all the way. My son rescued a sick kitten, some mischievous little kids, they dug a hole filled it with water and were drowning her, sick as she was. That little kitten has been my pet for a couple of years. What I want to point out is the cruelty I see growing among  new generations. Lack of respect as you say.

There is an equine-therapy ranch that works with disabled kids in the city. I can't imagine the sadness if something happened to those so loved horses.

Thank you for the flag and comment. The club had more than 300 students that were also deeply saddened along with all the jockeys and owners.

Yes, he deserves respect and homage. There was a team of people trying to save the horses I believe that's why around 60 survived.

patgarcia, I like this story. It's good stuff.  It's such a sad story.  Horses are our companions for longer than most marriages.  I'll give mine an extra treat today.

I want to thank everybody for the flags and comments, sometimes the add a comment / reply tool rejects my posts. Today is not one of those days!

I really appreciate them!
