Looks are deceiving. That's one of the best restaurants in Northwestern Ontario. Aside from having really good food, it's also a great example of Art Moderne.
The plaque is titled "The Nipigon Café" and the text is as follows:
Located right on the old Trans-Canada Highway is the Nipigon Café, an outstanding example of classic Art Moderne and a fixture on the scene since the 1930s. Sandy and Lilly Kuorikoski, the original proprietors operated a garage at this location before going into the restaurant business. A tunnel linked the café to the house next door where the owners lived. With a public sauna and a taxi stand for neighbours, the café was a popular stop. The Kuorikoski family ran the business until 1972 when John and Georgina Sravopoulis took over the restaurant, carrying on the tradition of good company and good food.
