NIU Shooting 2010: Shooting A Week After Anniversary of 2008 Dekalb Shooting

There has been a shooting at Norther Illinois University. NIU was locked down after a gunman shot and wounded another student. The shooter was arrested and is now in custody.

The shooting outside a residence hall appeared to be "an isolated incident between two individuals," the school said on its website. The victim was taken to a hospital.

The school said classes were to be held as usual at the 24,000-student university, which is in DeKalb, 65 miles southwest of Chicago.

On Feb 14th, students and staff at NIU commemorated the anniversary of the 2008 shooting at Northern Illinois University. In that incident a former graduate student opened fire in lecture room, killing five, wounding 19 and ultimately killing himself after the shooting spree.
