No Indonesian serviceman has any link with Alfredo: army chief

"None of them had any contact with him. Indonensian army members (in East Nusatenggara bordering Timor Leste) only have the duty to guard the border and they are not allowed to enter the neighboring country," the army chief said at a gathering with retired army officers here on Tuesday.

He said all soldiers of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) always followed regulations, including in carrying out government policies to uphold national sovereignty and secure the borders with Timor Leste.

"No Indonesian military man is involved. Soldiers follow rules. They only guard the border areas," Agustadi said.

Timor Leste President Jose Ramos Horta said recently that Alfredo Reinado had established communications with certain "elements in Indonesia."

It was reported from New York that Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda had asked Timor Leste President Jose Ramos Horta to provide evidence to support his allegation that Timor Leste rebel commander Alfredo Reinado had received support from "elements in Indonesia".
