Peguera in Majorca - Mallorca Tour 2008 British expats

British police are seeking the assistance of British expats living in Spain to help them find fugitives from the UK hiding out in the country. Spain remains a popular foreign destination for British people abroad, both for holidaying and for living, and also apparently for fleeing justice.

What's made this possible is the recent reinstatement of an extradition treaty between the two countries. Previously, Scotland Yard knew who the fugitives were, where they were, but couldn't do anything about it. The authorities are appealing to the law-abiding expats to keep their eyes peeled in bars, restaurants, or other popular expat hangouts for these individuals.

British crime fighters issued details on Thursday of 10 "most-wanted" criminals believed to be hiding in Spain.

The Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and charity Crimestoppers said the suspects were wanted for offences including murder, drug trafficking and kidnap.

They were thought to be on the run in the Alicante region in southeast Spain.
