New Delhi, 1999. Jessica, a young attractive model trying her hand at bartending, is shot dead at a celebrity party. Her crime - refusing to serve a drink after closing hours. The culprit Manu Sharma, son of a prominent politician, inebriated by a deadly cocktail of alcohol and a sense of entitlement, pulls the trigger in a fit of rage. With 300 of Delhi's swish set present at the party, many of whom are witnesses to the murder, Manu looks all set to go to the gallows.

How many times have you witnessed this story before in Hindi cinema? This plot has been a frequent fodder for masala movies in Bollywood since decades. But what sets Rajkumar Gupta's film way apart from the lot is its real story and realistic treatment.

Based on the Jessica Lall murder case that made headlines for more than a decade, No One Killed Jessica , as the disclaimer claims, is part fact and part fiction. While not exactly a docu-drama, the first half of the film has detailed documented events involving the murder and the court trail while the second half is dramatized using a fictional protagonist of a television news reporter who broadly symbolizes the media fraternity that was largely responsible in bringing about a rebellious retrial of the case.

The story opens in April 1999 when Jessica Lall (Myra), who works as a celebrity barmaid in a socialite party, is shot dead by Manu Sharma (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) merely because she refuses to serve him drinks. While Vikram (Neil Bhoopalam) and a few others testify of the murder to police, they retract from their statement in court under pressure. Jessica's sister Sabrina (Vidya Balan) pursues the case for years but after repeated trails Manu is acquitted in February 2006.

This film is based on real life Jessica Lal murder case. When trial court acquited the accused Manu Sharma, Times of India made the head line 'Noone Killed Jessiva' which has been retained as movie title.

Dr Shashi Mohan Sharma - London

Finally the long awaiting for "No one killed Jessica" is over. Much eager to see the first show, not for the matter of story line, but as many film dignitaries like Mr Bachchan and Aamir Khan having a very positive comments on the film after the premiere.Jessica is also releasing on the day, when no other Bollywood film is being released. I hope that the making of this good film and no other choice this weekend will make a good business for the producers. We must see good movies not only for entertainment, but for the understanding of the true life like characters, which we see in our daily life. It always put me off, when I see Bollywood movies with none of true daily routines, such as a group of boys dancing on the road in very pre-rehearsed style and manner. I never saw anyone singing and jumping like monkey in the park with singing  or exercising in the Michael Jackson style.    Honestly, at first I was surprised dear Rani using very foul language in the promos, but as far as the characterisation is concerned, it suits her well. It is also very daring act of her in the male dominant society confidently saying something, which is really hard to digest easily.Eagerly waiting to see Rani and Vidya's performace, and shall give my honest comments tomorrow.
