Articles and op-eds by those close to the Rajapakse regime in Sri Lanka have already appropriated Obama’s language, ideas, message and campaign for parochial ends. This is to be expected by a regime keen to demonstrate, to an international audience in particular, that it alone is best placed to bring about peace in Sri Lanka through the decimation of the LTTE and afterwards a political solution. Severely undermining these attempts to curry favour with the international community are the policies, practices and statements by a regime with scant regard for any of the principles of inclusivity, humility, respect and the transcendence of identity that define Obama, his campaign and his approach to and understanding of governance and politics.

Well  said!  It's preposterous that the Sri Lankan Army regularly writes so called reports of what a wonderful job it is doing!  On NowPublic of all places - and gets away with it!  Mrs Bandaraniyake made Singhala the only official language in 1984, doing huge damage to the Tamil minority and no one batted an eyelid.  Yes, the LTTE have done a massive disservice to the Tamils by assassinating all the moderate Tamil MPs.  Prabakaran, the LTTE leader is a tyrant and wants to become a dictator.  I will glad when he is killed.  But the Singhalese President has a long way to go in dealing with the Tamils, and I doubt he will ever get there!
