Norrie May-Welby May Have Become the World's First Person to Officially be Recognized as Neither a Male Nor a Female

Norrie May-Welby lives in Australia now, but was born in Renfrewshire, England. Welby, who is 48 years old, was born a man, but had a sex change to become a woman when he was 28.

However, Welby felt as if he didn't fit the body of a woman either and as The Telegraph reports, Welby decided to become what is known as a 'neuter', when someone does not have a specific gender. View a photo of Welby.

Welby underwent a number of doctor's tests, and they were unable to determine a specific sex and so Welby has become what it thought to be the world's first genderless person. There are no details posted about what sex organs Welby does or does not possess, but there is a MySpace page attached to Welby's name and the profile picture is a rather graphic photo of what could be their genital region (warning, picture is not suitable for all ages or for work.). The profile is private also.

“The concepts of man or woman don’t fit me. The simplest solution is not to have any sex identification.”

Norrie May-Welby also has a blog where Welby writes about the change and the distinction of being the world's first genderless person.

Whether I am seen as a man or as a woman or both or neither is different for many people. I don't see myself as absolutely one or the other; although I may use the ladies loos for convenience, I use the men's change rooms at the pool if I am with gay male friends.
