North America and beyond mourn loss of Buffalo Firefighters

Thousands of firefighters and other first responders from across North America and beyond came to honor their fallen brothers Friday.

Firefighters know their job is a risky one. The pain of losing another firefighter still doesn't get any easier. Buffalo's Bravest are now mourning the loss of two fallen heroes.

Buffalo Fire Department Captain Daniel Flaherty said, "It's a grieving process, but a sense of community helps us move forward."

Together, firefighters from western New York and around the world came together to pay their respects; Scotland, Australia, Canada, Rochester and Syracuse just to name a few.

John Sollers is from Washington, D.C.

Sollers of the Washington F.D. Emerald Society said, "I think a lot of the departments that are here have been through it and even the ones that haven't, they can identify with the brotherhood of the guys that were here and I think the support that comes from all over the country means a lot, just like when you have a loss in your family."

Others traveled only a few miles to be there; residents from western New York who witness the heroic actions of Buffalo's bravest every day.

Procession spectator Sidney Williams said, "I just pray for the families that God gives them strength."

After the funerals, firefighters came to the HSBC Arena where they bonded and shared stories; together, remembering the two men who can truly be called heroes, and healing from their devastating loss.
