North Carolina- Good God Man!
An obscure and dated provision in North Carolina's State Constitution that bars officeholders that deny the existence of "All Mighty God", is causing trouble for the recently elected Ashville City councilman Cecil Bothwell. An avowed atheist, Mr. Bothwell was sworn in on last Tuesday after being elected in November.
Opponents are threatening to file suit against the city for swearing Mr. Bothwell in, and are citing the State Constitution's prohibition of permitting non believers to hold office.
One opponent, H. K. Edgerton, is threatening to file suit against the city to challenge Mr. Bothwell’s swearing in. “My father was a Baptist minister,” Mr. Edgerton said. “I’m a Christian man. I have problems with people who don’t believe in God.” Mr. Edgerton is a local civil rights leader and founder of Southern Heritage 411, an organization that promotes the interests of black Southerners.
David Morgan, the head of a conservative weekly newspaper, The Asheville Tribune, said city officials had shirked their duty to uphold the state’s laws by swearing in Mr. Bothwell. source. AP

Which god is he to believe in? It seems that many worship at Cash's feet. What nonsense. I concur with ACP.

The one and only in three persons surrounded by a multitude of saints, angels and holly people, you know, the one who created heaven and earth some 10 thousand years ago. Welcome to the dark ages.

Well then, It seems we have been just a tad ignorant over the centuries. All this time and someone managed to convince most of the people on this planet that there was a God, hmm. Come to think of it, for those who are at least 30-100, they are going to need some kind of treatment to cleanse their wayward beliefs. It seems that 1776 and the constitution of the new USA was written out of ignorance.(some of it was). This surely was very clever, mass hypnotism! When our newly elected Potentate- his Eminence- BHO was sworn in, I recall the recital so help me God oath, although he had to do a retake. Fooled him too. There's no harm in believing in something that can't hurt anyone, don't we tell some fairy tales to our kids? Santa, now that was conjured (excuse me) I might have hit the post comm by accident or maybe it was the spirit of my ambitious fingers. No, if someone swears by something, even if they have no belief in it, they are bound by the promise. Something like marriage, at least in the honorable sense anyway. One should not dily daly around with other people's faith. Choose to not believe, fine, believe, good, Believe that I believe, great. Where do we go if everything we say and do based on credibility is nothing but a smoke screen. In fact and for that matter, why not then just say that, "Well I know that we had an agreement yesterday, but I really didn't mean it" No honor, No good.
