North India reeling under dense fog, delays flights & Trains

Many parts of northern India have been reeling under biting cold conditions and dense fog. Punjab, Haryana and Delhi have been the worst hit.

On Monday, there was heavy fog in and around Delhi and general visibility dropped to less than 50 metres. This led to a delay in many flights.
A Royal Jordanian flight from Amman to New Delhi had to be diverted to Mumbai as a result of bad weather around the national capital.

Dozens of passengers were stranded at the Indiar Gandhi International airport in New Delhi today (December 29), as dence fog forced major flight disruptions this morning.

The visibility has fallen to 50 meters, forcing delay and cancellation of domestic as well as international flights.

As on 6.30 am, twelve flights domestic and three international flights departing from New Delhi were delayed and one domestic flight cancelled.

The train traffic was also hit due to a thick blanket of fog which enveloped the region on Sunday.

While the Unnchahaar Express was late by more then eight hours, the Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi Express and Himalayan-Queen Express also ran behind schedule.

Railway officials said the Unchahaar Express arrived at 6 pm instead of its scheduled time of 9.55 am. It was for the first time on Sunday that the Shatabdi Express and Himalayan-Queen were late by one hour each.
