North Korea May Fire Ballistic Missile Toward Hawaii: Report
North Korea may fire a missile towards Hawaii says a new report coming from Japan, and this would take place in early July. This report comes as Russia and China urges North Korea to return to the international disarmament talks.
The missile, which would most likely be a Taepodong-2, has a range of 4,000 miles, and according to the Yomiuri Daily, Japan's top selling newspaper, this launch would take place between July 4 and July 8
However, the missile could not reach Hawaii, which are about 4,500 miles from North Korea, but it would be fired over Japan and in that general direction.
The Japanese Defense Ministry has declined to comment and South Korea's Defense Ministry has also said they cannot confirm the report.
North Korea has concluded its second nuclear test and tensions about what is happening there has spiked in recent weeks. It has said that it will bolster its nuclear programs and has even threatened war.
In the United States, they made a statement on Tuesday that North Korea is preparing to fire a long-range missile towards Washington DC, but General James Cartwright stated that it would take them three to five years to fire a missile that could pose a real threat to the United States.
President Barack Obama and South Korean President Lee Myung-bak met in Washington on Tuesday for a landmark summit in which they agreed to build a regional and global "strategic alliance" to persuade North Korea to dismantle all its nuclear weapons. Obama declared North Korea a "grave threat" to the world and pledged that the new U.N. sanctions on the communist regime will be aggressively enforced.
South Korea has said that they are bracing for all possible scenarios in regards to North Korea.
The International Crisis Group however, says that the threat of North Korea firing a missle is no bigger danger than their nuclear arsenal. North Korea already has about 2,500 to 5,000 tons of chemical weapons such as mustard gas, phosgene, blood agents and sarin.
"If progress is made on rolling back Pyongyang's nuclear ambitions, there could be opportunities to construct a cooperative diplomatic solution for chemical weapons and the suspected biological weapons program," the think tank said in a report released Thursday.
The Crisis Group also asked the U.S to engage in talks with North Korea and that they should send a 'high-level' envoy to Pyongyang. Meanwhile, Russia and China urged North Korea to return to nuclear talks, and it appears that Russia and China are becoming impatient with Pyongyang's lack of willingness to cooperate in talks with other countries.
"Russia and China are ready to foster the lowering of tension in Northeast Asia and call for the continuation of efforts by all sides to resolve disagreements through peaceful means, through dialogue and consultations," their statement said.

Moral of the story: The world will listen only if you have the nuclear / missile power not if you cry for justice peacefully all the days !!

Yes, I put the name of the Japanese newspaper in the body of the story - but here's a link for you.

The leadership in N. Korea CAN'T be so stupid to make a strike against the USA unless they feel they have backup...
Something is very odd that they are making all the threats of attacking the U.S.A.
Something just does not fit.

One would think that if a missle was to enter South Korea or Japan's air space it should be shot down. I would expect the US to do the same. Perhaps North Korea would get tired of spending millions on missles that get shot down. What is China doing about this same problem? Are they going to allow this to continue or are they afraid to step up to the plate?
