They're back... Once again the fear of having you house and belonging knocked around has returned.

This is just like the quakes that plagued us earlier this year, These have started out small and worked their way up to a fair movement.
If this earthquake swarm continues, this reporter will update... between taking down the artwork and standing in the doorway.

Northwest Reno Earthquake upgraded to a 3.1

The Reno temblor centered near North West Reno, has been upgraded to a 3.1 magnitude.

ON Thursday, the United States Geological Survey reported the earthquake was stronger than originally reported. It occurred at 11:42 p.m. Wednesday, in the same area where a swarm of earthquakes were centered several months ago - and yet another was reported Monday morning - Nov. 10.

The USGS originally reported the earthquake as a 2.7 magnitude.

The earthquake's epicenter was 2 miles (4 km) north-northwest of Verdi and Mogul, about 6 miles (10 km) north-northwest of Reno, and about 10 miles (15 km) south-southwest of Sun Valley, according to the USGS.

Rebecca Bessler Channel 2 News

A relatively strong earthquake rattled northwest Reno on Wednesday night.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the 2.7 temblor hit at 11:42 p.m., in the Verdi-Mogul area.

Some viewers called the Channel 2 Newsroom, describing the quake as "jerky" and "strong."

This wasn't the only earthquake to hit northwest Reno on Wednesday. The USGS also reported the following quakes:

  • 0.8 at 12:07 p.m.
  • 1.4 at 12:36 p.m.
  • 1.4 at 1:16 p.m.
  • 1.4 at 4:26 p.m.
  • 1.0 at 9:20 p.m.

I have a friend in Reno too, and she sent me a message on Facebook saying she felt it, but nothing was too badly damaged - mostly things falling off the wall and a few kitchen items breaking. She was pretty freaked out though

These numbers are so small that they rarely are felt by Humans

Earthquakes less than about 2 on the Richter scale are meaningless as they can barely even be measured, much less felt.

Some of us have trouble getting our heads around how the scale works.  This professor helps us a bit,  It’s Kelly versus Richter, or earthquakes for dummies

The proposed Kelly Scale advanced by 10s. I started with Richter 3.0, which is good enough because quakes less than 3.5 are usually not felt. That means Richter 4.0 would be 10, Richter 5.0 100, Richter 7.0 10,000 and Richter 10.0 a whopping 1 million.

These quakes are being called shallow all I know is that they are felt very well.

Remember to never hang a picture above your bed if you live in an earthquake zone.  You probably should forego the mirrored ceiling too.
