Barry Artiste Op/Ed

If memory serves me correctly, didn't a small Quebec town called "Herouxville" foresee this years before?   Did not a town councilor Andre Drouin, on behalf his constituents, make a plea to all levels of the Canadian government politicians to take action against those who arrive in Canada that Canadians do not accept this form of Cultural Savagery?  Did not this Councilor on behalf of his constituents draft a town charter, including submitting it to the provincial and federal government that perhaps Immigrants who practice this form of degrading practice of oppressing women, including killing them, learn about Canadian Customs that women are equal to men and that Canada is not a "Man's World" for Women to Serve you and walk 10 paces behind you, women who you value less than cattle and more like Breeding Stock?  Best Immigrants know this before they decide to come to Canada!   Did not these small town country folk of farmers far removed from the International World stage of Politics insist all levels of government to take action on new arrivals and assist them in learning what is acceptable in Canada and what is not?

Did not the Politicians, Media and some World citizens mocked, laughed at and ostracized this small town as racist, backwards, unclued and uneducated Hicks who know not what they speak of?  Certainly the adage of if you refuse to protect the female species from harm, you are then part of the problem!  As they say what goes around, comes around!

Since Herouxville's foray into World Politics, our eyes are now more open as suddenly we realise this country has Honour Killings, which seem to be all around us, practised in many towns and cities both in Canada and in the World.  Despite Canadian Politicians, Media and the Public stating, these Honour Killings are rare and almost non existent in Canada.  Herouxville voiced protection of Canadian Values for all Canadians regardless of race of religion and welcomed anyone to immigrate to their small town if those abide by the Towns Guidelines.   Some Canadians, Media and Politicians "POO POO'D" this ideal by the Herouxville citizenry as Fear Mongering!   Herouxville countered that Canada and the Canadian way of Life, her freedoms and culture were in danger of being lost forever.  Freedoms our forefathers and Women fought hard for and died for.  Freedom of Expression, Freedom of Protest, Due process of Law, Womens Rights, Gay Rights, Freedom of Association and other rights we hold dear.   Is it Fear Mongering when recently for example Afghanistan's previous vote on legitimizing Rape between a husband and wife who may withhold her affections, and currently Islamic law in Iran forbids protests under penalty of imprisonment or death?

Certainly  values such as these has no place in Canadian Society!  Honour Killings, Freedom of protests are just a minute example of many injustices practiced under customs contrary to customs practised in Canada and the World Over.   We do not live in the Dark Ages, and have no desire to do so.

Funny how Herouxvilles predictions make it seem that simple country folk see what Canada failed to see!  Are they like Nostradomus' who could foresee the future?  Hell No!   Herouxville, like many of us around the world use common sense, we see what is going on, what is foretold and informed the public, media and governments of our fears from many observations in the Canadian Media, and know of the events to come.

Observations by many of us who like Herouxville, totally different observations by a clueless Government and media who would prefer to lay prostrate on the ground and have those who wish to destroy or change the Canadian way of life by those who will relish to step on their exposed pale white pink bellies.  Isn't it just Mindboggling how Highly paid acedemics, Consultants, and Government Diplomats either failed of refused to see the future or report fully what is going on and the consequences for Canada?  How can this be?  Isn't it just as mind boggling that a small group of Farmers led by Andre Drouin predicted to the world, what many of this highly paid people did not?   Perhaps taxpayers should demand their money back, as it is clear the obvious, is obviously oblivious to these Clueless High Paid Diplomats, Humanists and Government Consultants!

Perhaps there is more truth in simple minds have simple solutions, hence why many believe in the Farmers Almanac, an Almanac developed by simple farm folk, which is like a bible to farmers and academics alike.  A Farmers Almanac is seen as witchcraft by some, one would think a simple book like this in some countries may be seen as practising Heresy and the Black Arts, some punishable by prison or death.

Once that is said and done it will be too late to go back, it is best to nip it in the bud now!

Harper spouts their Government is a Common Sense Government, so best our Prime Minister put that Common Sense into practise before Canadians regret putting Harper and his Conservatives behind the wheel of Power. ( We all know the Liberals, if behind the wheel would be useless as they rely heavily on the immigrant vote in order to get elected and direction).

There is a wise saying, " Heed me know, or Heed me later" , best put policies in place letting those know in advance what Canada's culture and laws are, again, I repeat, if those who disagree, can look elsewhere to immigrate.

In ending, Governments need to take a hard look at other countries who let Multiculturalism get out of hand and the civil unrest and it's tragic outcomes.

The Netherlands, France and other European Countries Liberal attitudes were a magnet of Multiculturalism for decades, now they finally see the folly of their ways. Unfortunately it is too late for them, for they welcomed those with open arms, and perhaps it is unfair for these countries to turn back the clock,  best Canada act know before our Clock turns into a Sundial in Darkness. It is still there, it just doesn't work in Darkness.  See the Light Canada before it is taken away.

I LOVE MY COUNTRY, AND DEMAND THOSE WHO LIVE HERE LOVE IT TOO! SO SHOULD YOU!

This is not domestic violence If we are to stop honour killings in the West, we must see them for what they are

By Raheel Raza, The Ottawa Citizen July 28, 2009

Two men appear in court in London charged with throwing acid in the face of the suspected lover of a British Muslim woman, blinding him; on the same date, in Canada, a brother, father and mother are accused of murdering three teenagers and their stepmother in Kingston; in Texas two teenage sisters are shot and killed, and their father is wanted, accused of murdering them because he was upset by their "western ways"; In New York the founder of Bridges TV, Muzzammil Hassan, is arrested for allegedly having beheaded his wife, Aasiya Z. Hassan, who had recently filed for divorce.

Domestic violence? Drug- related murders? Not by a long shot. These cases have two things in common. They were allegedly perpetrated by Muslims against Muslims, and the motive in each case seems to be "honour."

Hum, Interesting Opinion Barry. I can see where you are coming from, I am not sure though that what you suggest is the solution since we have just as many radicals with in the original population.

They just seem over shadowed by the the focus on the foreigners.

Hi Barry,

Since I am not familiar with Heroux, it took me a few paragraphs to understand what you were talking about.

"Immigrants wishing to live in the small Canadian town of Herouxville, Quebec, must not stone women to death in public, burn them alive or throw acid on them, according to an extraordinary set of rules released by the local council."

I hope after a few generations this kind of thing will stop.

Thank you both for your comments, true as you say Paschen we have radicals, Canadian born radicals, the difference is these radicals know their practices are against Canadian Law and are NOT Acceptable. Unfortunately in some countries these practices are ACCEPTABLE and ENCOURAGED by both Governments, Cultures and Religious beliefs and have been for a Millennium.  That is the difference I am writing about. When you are in someones house, it is courteous to abide by their house rules.

In response to your comments Sara, what Herouxville stated is correct, unfortunately many said this doesn't happen here in this country, contrary to this story by the reporter and other media reports in Canada, hence my stance that many should know the obvious wrongs of their actions, though the obvious oblivious governments, chest thump and deny it happens, but because of political correctness condone it, as it is clear they are not stopping it, by failing to inform those we do not do this in Canada and most civilised Countries. Granted there will be some who will not listen, and those who do not must be dealt with so severely that others may think twice before doing it to others.

To hope that this will go away after a few generations is wishful thinking.  Practices get passed on from one generation to the next.  I agree with Barry that what is acceptable in this country has to be taught at the time or before their arrival. I would carry it a step further and make multicultural community leaders responsible for educating their new arrivals, including their sponsors.  We do have a system in place for this already.

1
Barry Artiste

And a very underutilized system judging from past atrocities. those in the next generation who decide to assimilate into the Canadian Culture may end up putting their own lives at risk from a unbending religious community, especially if they are women.  Look at Europe who have two generations already under their belt, nothing has changed judging from the current unrest and riots, not to mention terrorist bombings.

It sounds like this should be dealt with on arrival then, so as not to pass on the practice of these illegal activities. It sounds like they proliferate this crime in every country they go. It is just not right.

I agree.  If we are unable to protect women's rights in Canada, how can we expect to control it in Afghanistan.

I once drove some foreign nationals, businessmen and engineers from a Muslim country, with their American counterpart to a hotel.

On the way, the American kept asking them about "honor killings" in their home country. Unbelievably, they denied that honor killings took place.

After letting them off, the American and I talked about the denial we had just witnessed.

The second denial is the one done by politically correct authorities who act as if there is no problem, and, worse, that to think that there is a problem is to be racist, or prejudiced, when there really is a problem and a very big one.

Germaine Greer, author of The Female Eunuch, one of the more interesting books about women's liberation to come out in the '70s, now goes around and tells Westerners that we have no right to oppose clitorectomies or woman wearing burkhas.

Having also lived in a country where women are not considered equal to men, and now living in Canada, I have seen both sides of this argument. But I do agree that if you move somewhere to start a new life, then it's perfectly acceptable to undertake the customs of your new country and leave the ones that are breaking the law in your new country behind you. I would not move back to where I used to live and expect to be treated the same as I do in Canada, as that is not their custom and I would respect that.

I lived and worked in Canada for over a decade and I was happy to leave after having my Car burned down, my windows broken, dead piglets in my mail box and my Sheep being poisoned.

Why? because I did not agree with Some Native costumes of polluting and ravaging the land. Dumping raw sewage into the Rivers and Lakes or using MGO to no avail with out even thinking what it does.

I meet some great Canadian as well and remained friends with those, ironically those where not to proud of what they fellow country man did to foreigners that tried to clean up the environment and change bad habits into good once.

I was told in Canada to shut up because I was a foreigner and had no rights to point out pollution and change their ways.

I pointed out to them that they where not the first people either and that those first people where killed by their for fathers. At least I did not come to Canada to wipe out all Canadian but rather to help and invest.

I came to Canada believing it to be a great country like Trudeau proclaimed it Internationally.

I left with great disappointment and wish I had never come and spend so much time and invested some much work and money into that country.

That money and time would have been better spend in any Muslim country.

Canada has much to learn from Foreigners and Honour Killing is a problem with a minority, yet the way foreigners are being treated is a problem with the Majority of Canadian.

I can understand some of what you say Paschen, but I disagree with your statement that "That money and time would have been better spend (sic) in any Muslim country."

Only if he were a Muslim, or in a Moderate country.

THanks Paschen and Caj1 for your comments.

Barry, most of my Family lives in a Muslim Country and I grow up in West Africa and worked there as well as a non Muslim and I was fine.

The extreme Countries are rare such as Saudi Arabia for instance.

Granted their is an increase in fundamentalism that is worrying in Muslim Countries over all, however the same sort of fundamentalism is on the rise in Christian countries by Christian movements.

The problem is international and crosses all religion even Buddhist in Sri Lanka are moving towards Fundamentalism.

Just take a look at the dynamics of the US Politics it is not much better then Iran, the Religious right dominates.

Same in Alberta Canada. Wish could be called the Canadian Bible belt.

too many "red-necks" in Canada!

1
eastvanray

At least rednecks do not burn their wives and sisters for being seen in the company of another man.  Maybe we should insist that all muslim immigrants move to rural Canadian communities.  Let them try to get away with burning their wives in Lethbridge!  Yee Haw!!!

2
Paschen

No East they do not burn their Wife just every outsiders they do not like.

I am actually surprised to read this from you Z-J2B, When ever I say some thing against North America you are usually the first defending NA.

I would not call Canadian Red Necks though. We have good and bad every where. No matter where we look it is not perfect. Some places do make more progress then other and some are regressive at times.

I think Canada if far from what it used to be under Trudeau and has entered a negative era in its evolution. Lets hope it wont last to long.

Hey J2B, I resemble that Remark!

It is true that many men abuse women in Canada. And that we know is contrary to our laws. As long as these laws are abided by all we stand a chance to control that violence.

But if some Canadians due to their religion have to read books (called sacred our holy) where they are instructed the contrary (i.e. beat them wife), guess what !

Immigrants, refugees and people with visas enter Canada at a rate close to 10,000 per week (Jason Kenney, Feb. 2009), the highest rate in the world. If Canadians want to keep their country a safe place to live they must make sure that these newcomers know about the laws of their country.

And if any religion related books teach something that is contrary to our laws, then these books should be banned.

0
eastvanray

Most Canadians do not support banning books.  We believe in freedom of speech and of the press.  We ban behaviour that is contrary to our laws.

Paschen?  I understand that you grew up in a Islamic country? Would you mind telling us which one?

The trend of radicalism or fundamentalism as you put it, maybe evident in many different nations. However to compare Christianity with Islamism is extremely poor taste and shows your lack of understanding. Islam teaches terrorism where as Christ did not. Extremity in Christianity is to show love to your enemies or to turn the other cheek. Extremity in Islam is to fight and kill all who oppose Islam period until they are subdued into submission. A martyr of Christianity is one who defends another person regardless of their faith, one who stands in front of a bullet intended for another and not ask what faith they are first. A martyr of Islam is one who kills as many infidels as possible for his god Allah, which is by the way, not the God of Israel. Now I know with your simple mind you will say that my standard of Christ did not apply with the likes of the crusades, which I will agree with you, for no where did our Lord say to kill someone who disagrees with your faith let alone kill 200 people and destroy over half a million dollars worth of Church property because of a cartoon. Besides that Paschen the persecution of Christians in every Islamic society around the world today demonstrates the hatred that Muslims have for infidels. Yet Canada opens its heart to Muslims and Islam and we do not see Christians persecuting Muslims in Canada.

Thanks for the comments Mark, by the way Mohamed never taught violence either, but Islamic Nutjobs did when they interspersed Mohameds teachings with their own spin on what Islam should be,guaranteed if Mohamed were alive today, he would singlehandedly strangle the crap out of each and every Islamic Cleric for besmirching his teachings, cause violence was not one of them.

A lot of people come here armed with platitudes about life in North America. And,of course, things aren't the same as they had imagined. and the adaptation isn't easy.Sometimes we don't want to make it easy. And sometimes we think immigrants are imposing aspects of their culture we can't sanction....

I've experienced-for the last 7 years-life as an immigrant in China..Marrying a Chinese woman helped me to lose that status and to gain acceptance.I really had to work at being reticent rather than confrontational though, and it took years to gain even a basic understanding of the people.

Paschen ,you  are as desirable a presence in Canada as you let yourself  become.I'd recommend you steer clear of invasive questions about politics and religion, thus avoiding being put in a defensive position.(I made a point of not discussing the Taiwan/China matter).Learn what buttons to push and you'll be fine--except for the malcontents none of us like.
