Weird things happen in the back woods communities of these United States. Sometimes people in rural areas have an appetite for wild creatures, like opossums for instance. In this case, however, the man was not hungry, and he was so drunk that he was overwhelmed by compassion as he tried to save opossum road kill.
“Police: Drunk Pa. man tried to revive dead opossum
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. - Police say they charged a Pennsylvania man with public drunkenness after he was seen trying to resuscitate a long-dead opossum along a highway.
State police Trooper Jamie Levier says several witnesses saw 55-year-old Donald Wolfe, of Brookville, near the animal Thursday along Route 36 in Oliver Township, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
The trooper says one person saw Wolfe kneeling before the animal and gesturing as though he were conducting a séance. He says another saw Wolfe attempting to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.”

Yes - the Jessica Simpson Pours Water Up Nose - Drinks Own Urine? story - one of absurdity rather than news - but imagine if this guy had brought the opossum around? Now that would have been news and in some places people value kindness to animals greater than to humans (here anyway) and he would surely have been given a medal of some sort,
My uncle (not real uncle but mum and dad's great friend so 'uncle') once witnessed a road crash outside his home - he and his friend rushed out and took turns giving mouth to mouth to a man by the side of the crashed van but to no avail. later they found that the van was an unmarked so called 'private ambulance' - a death wagon used for transporting corpses to the morgue - the guy had been dead for a good 6 hours before the crash - it was only when the at first unconscious driver came around and managed to pull uncle off the stiff that the mistake was realised.
