One can be sure, Police won't investigate too hard on this one. Karma has a way of evening things out sometimes.

Notorious gay basher kills himself in jail

Quebec provincial police are investigating the death of Jeffrey Lalonde, 36, who was serving a life sentence in a Quebec prison for his role in a murder that set off a firestorm of gay rights activism, and spurred the creation of the Ottawa Police Service's hate crime unit.

Lalonde, convicted of the 1989 murder of Chateau Laurier waiter Alain Brosseau, was found dead in his cell at the medium-security Leclerc Institution on Monday after an apparent suicide.

Lalonde pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for throwing Brosseau, 33, off the Alexandra Bridge after robbing and assaulting the man as he walked home from a late-night shift at the hotel.

Quebec Superior Court Judge Orville Frenette called the attack a "brutal, inhumane act" and handed the then 18-year-old Lalonde a life sentence.

Thanks Beaulieu, my brother Rob still works as bartender at the Chateau where this waiter worked, certainly shook up the staff.  Nice to see this killer took himself out and saved taxpayers money.

Barry Artiste, "over-kill" is apparent in the murder of gays and those perceived as gay. Interesting to note that Brosseau apparently fell into the later category, because he was not gay. Thanks for posting this story!

Thanks for the comments Rhonda, many of these crimes are opportunistic.  There is a bridge across from the Chateau with an underpass to the Rideau Locks which had seen it's share of violence as transients and homeless dwell under it, and passerbys have many times been accosted violently . City hall wanted to gate this underpass and lock it, but bleeding hearts said this underpass belongs to everyone including the homeless.  Certainly smacks of stupidity, when the underpass is a prime spot for drug deals, violence against passerbys and other criminal activity. Hopefully City Hall will go ahead with their plan, despite protests from special interests.

Barry - It sounds like they (City Hall) should go ahead with their plans.  Who benefits with knowledge that the underpass is a "prime spot for drug deals, violence...", yet does not want it gated? I think it goes beyond stupidity.
