A Notre Dame Student Died Wednesday Afternoon After a Film Tower Fell Over Near a Practice Football Field

The name of the student is not being released at this time, but WNDU reports that the student is 21-years-old and they died at the LaBar Practice Complex on the southeast side of the campus.

The student was not on the field, but was filming the Notre Dame practice for the Department of Athletics from a hydraulic scissor lift when the film tower fell over.

They died in hospital and now the cause of the accident is under investigation.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” said Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., Notre Dame’s president. “Our hearts go out to the student’s family and friends and our prayers and profound sympathies are with them during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of someone so young is a terrible shock and a great sadness. Our entire community shares in the family’s grief.”

The tower appears to have fallen over due to high winds.
