Barry Artiste Op/Ed

With 911 still on Americans minds, when November 4th sees a new administration, one wonders the fate of Canada's 1st Islamic Terrorist, currently incarcerated in Guantanamo's Prison for lobbing a grenade and murdering US Medic Sgt. Speer in Pakistan/Afghanistan firefight with US and Pakistani Forces conflict against Terrorists?

Many still think of Omar Khadr as a Child soldier, regardless that now he is a 22 year old man. Some may feel this once Child Soldier Omar Khadr will be released by a new US President and be sent home to Canada.

If it should happen, whether a release or continued detainment of Omar, It will be interesting regardless who takes the mantle of President as there will be those against it, and those for it.

Will it ever be brought up with the new president, or will Omar sit in prison, as no newly elected President wants to commit political suicide by taking a stance either way?

Of course, one can use the excuse of shutting down the prison as an excuse to release Omar Khadr, though my money is on the US Administration letting the court of law to take it's own course and leaving the President out of it. If McCain's administration released Khadr, Veterans and families of 911 will be incensed, though it may curry favour with the Liberals.

If Obama's administration releases Khadr, it will be seen as a pro islamic President by Nutjob Right wingers and 911 victims families.

A double edged Jihadist sword no matter what either President elect decide to do. Below is my past story and Tina Kells past story on Omar Khadr and his close family ties to Bin Laden and Jihad.

Now Public Readers can make up their own minds on what a President should do to appease both left and right political wings and the American public . It would be interesting to get an American perspective on this story, whether Americans would be for or against Omar Khadr's release? What would you think of your newly elected president if they made the decision?

Omar Khadr is just one case.

Worse still, if all these terrorists are allowed to be incarcerated on American soil, will prisons become High value targets for Terrorists in the USA looking to free their Jihadist brethren?

I am sure Joe Prison Guard from Iowa didn't sign up for that kind of adventure if a Terrorist is housed in his prison, perhaps this should have been made an election issue, because sure as shooting, Americans will have to face the prospect of Terrorists jailed in their towns and cities.

Background on Omar Khadr's Mother who took her child out of Canada to fight for Bin Laden, Why? Because Mommie Dearest feared raising her children in Canada would cause them to be homosexual drug addicts!

Ah yes, Islam, the kind benevolent ideology many misinterpret to justify and a deadly ends to a Zealots means.

Khadr trial delayed again until January

Canwest News Service Published: Friday, October 24, 2008

The trial of Omar Khadr, the only Canadian imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay, has been delayed again -- until after a new U.S. administration takes over the White House in January.

The 22-year-old, who was 15 when he was captured in Afghanistan, will not be tried until Jan. 26, a U.S. military judge ruled Friday.

It's the second time the judge has delayed the trial, which was supposed to be held this month -- three years after Khadr was formally charged.

The delay means Khadr may not face trial in Guantanamo Bay at all, since both U.S. presidential candidates, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain, have both said they want to shut down the detention camps in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Thanks Rhonda and Luiz, certainly something for Americans to ponder, if they close down the prison in CUBA where will the terrorists go?   As I say in my story, Omar Khadr is just one case.

Let's see, Canada has troops in Afghanistan.  Soooo, we grant Canada jurisdiction and custody and turn him over to our favorite neighbor to the north to deal with him.

Can't you hear the politicians calling?  Oh, Canada?

Or we do like we did with the Aussie David Hicks.  Try him at Guantanamo and send him home

Either way, I doubt that Canada has seen the last of its wayward lad.  After all, Prime Minister Harper would not like to be seen as being soft on terrorists would he?  Here's his perfect opportunity to do away with any doubts.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff. this is one problem out of the past. Where should all the Investment bankers go to prison, 25.000 round about betrayed the world  for more than $ 1 trillion.

The new Administration will be sworn in Jan 20 or so.

. . . when November 4th sees a new administration
What we will see on or somewhat after Nov 4 would be the new figurehead, but the same old same olds will still be there even after Jan 20.

Barry Artiste, I like this story. It's good stuff.  Thanks for the heads up on this story.  Thank you for keeping Omar's name in front of the public.  It is a difficult decision as to what to do, but he shouldn't continue to be punished for having been abused by his family.  The Canadian gov't should have requested his return years ago.

Hey I got no problem with him being released, just not to his Jihadist Terrorist family back in Canada, a Canadian family who sent him to Afghanistan to Jihad training camp as a 14 year old, who gave him an AK-47  and told him to kill innocent men, women and children. As far as I am concerned it should have been the mother who should rot in hell, for what she did to her children, Why Canada has not deported the lot of them is beyond me.

No release. He was old enough to be tried, and is old enough now.

Thanks Rene, that is what I am thinking, besides Obama will not want to suffer the wrath of a nation by releasing Omar.
