The polls have closed in Nova Scotia and CTV Atlantic is projecting a majority government for the NDP.  This will be the first ever New Democratic government in Atlantic Canada.

Unlike the European Union, Nova Scotia has opted for a socialist government. Darrel Dexter is now set to become the next Premier of Nova Scotia.

After ten years of Conservative rule the 700,000 voters have spoken and handed the Conservatives a defeat.  This will be the first NDP (New Democratic Party) east of Ontario.

This should give food for thought to the minority Conservative Government in Ottawa and will give some cause for worry to the Liberal Party.

The Province's sagging economy dominated the election campaign, which lasted 35 days.

The polls have now closed in Nova Scotia, and CTV Atlantic is projecting an NDP majority government, the first ever in Atlantic Canada.

NDP Leader Darrell Dexter is now set to become the next premier of Nova Scotia.

With the Opposition New Democrats leading in opinion surveys for more than two years, the province's 700,000 voters appeared ready Tuesday to turn their backs on 10 years of Tory rule and make history by electing the first NDP government east of Ontario.

The vote share at this time (8:52pm EST) was NDP 45.31%, Liberals 27.18%, Conservatives 24.52%, Green 2.32% and IND .67%.

Interesting..Liberals are ahead of Tories.

A poll commissioned by CBC News put the NDP ahead with 44 per cent of decided voters. The Liberals were in second place at 28 per cent while the Tories were at 26 per cent About two per cent of those surveyed supported the Green party.

The result for the Conservatives is not overly surprising.  Harper spoiled his chances in Atlantic Canada a long time ago.  The last Federal Election is a measure of that.
