In the NowPublic News Values, we state a very simple definition of news: "News is new information on current events."

Right now, the US Election is an important current event and we want to hear from you!  Not sure what to write about? Here are some suggestions:

  • What are your thoughts on the US Election campaign?  Was it a fair and clean campaign, or was it dominated by smear tactics and propaganda?
  • How do you feel about the candidates and their platforms? Can there be change under McCain?  Will Obama be able to live up to his historical place in US politics?
  • How will you vote, and why?  If your candidate loses, what do you think will be the biggest reason?
  • Has race been made too big an issue in this campaign?  If so, has it been the political parties that have put race on the agenda, or is the media to blame? Or is it the behavior of party supporters (Democratic and/or Republican) that have put racial politics in the spotlight?
  • What do you consider to be stand out moments during the campaign, and which events would you file in the campaigning hall of shame?
  • Did you register to vote?  If yes, how did you find the process in your state?  If no, why not?
  • Did you vote early?  How did you vote? What did you think of the voting process?  Were there any stand-out issues or problems when you went to cast your ballot?
  • On voting day: How well run were the polls in your area?  Were there any barriers to your casting a vote?  If yes, what were those barriers and what would you have done differently?
  • What do you think of the issues?  What is the most important thing facing the United States today? What is the least important?
  • What do you think about celebrity endorsements?  Do they sway your vote?  Or do they just annoy you?

At NowPublic.com we consider a story newsworthy if it meets any or all of the following criteria:

  1. It is an eyewitness account: Original, relevant information about a current event that you have actually witnessed, documented, or researched;
  2. It offers new information: bits of information you have collected, arranged, tied together and put into a context in relation to a current event;
  3. It is a commentary: your advice or analysis directly related to a current event.

Tina Kells, I like this story. It's good stuff.  Good idea.  I never thought about politics too much.. I will give it a shot.  LOL  I would really enjoy seeing everyday folks write their stories.  Will give NP the pulse of the nation on this issue

Thanks!  That is exactly what we are looking for, news from the pulse of the nation.  If there were protests on your way to the polls, we want to hear about it.  If you witnessed voting irregularities, we want to know.  If you had difficulty registering to vote, we want your story.  It's all news, and it is all important.

Good Stuff:

Equally valid I think is the opinion of people who did not, or will not vote: For example:

  1. Why not?
  2. Have you been bullied or coached to vote for a certain person?
  3. I didn't understand the voting process or how the result could possibly benefit me?
    etc.

Peter.

Tina Kells, I like this story. It's good stuff.

The problem I see is that we can write good stories for presentation or write our views in the comments section. Somehow these two compete with each other in a way that I don't feel always comfortable with. Good Comments don't get the GS flags...or the exposure to being listed. How to solve?  I have seen articles that I consider comments....and comments that I would consider articles.....Really we need to fix this situation.....

Perhaps comments can be tagged as good toward being an article...and articles booted that resemble comments. People can save their article archives....but comments are not saved... Who leads this deliberation on this issue with NP?

This is my final appeal to the Americans in general and US women in particular. Whether you are black or white does not matter. What matters is the integrity and trustworthiness of the candidate. I would just like to remind you that while Obama is very much a family man and has a lovely family, McCain left his first wife for his present wife; leaving her in the lurch. As you all know, McCan's first wife was a beauty queen or model before McCain left for Vietnam. Just because an accident disfigured the first wife, McCain dumped her for his present wife who also came from a wealthy family. I would like to ask you Americans a simple question - if McCain can do that to  his wife although she was a  beauty, what  would not he do to you after he is  elected US President?  He may even dump you and make deals with  Osama  (repeat Osama)! Who  knows? Simply put, if he can betray his wife and family, who are you that he wouldn't betray? Think twice before you cast that precious vote. God bless America!
