NP Journalist Akhand receives Indian National Award

Akhand, a nowpublic citizen journalist from Indian eastern state Orissa, has recieved the prestigious Sarojini Naidu National Award in journalism. He got the special jury citation award for best reporting in Oriya language on women in local Governance in Orissa .

The award has been presented on 2nd ocotber (Gandhiji's Birthday) by Indian Finance Minister  Shri P. Chidambaram in a special function at Indian Habitat Centre, Newdelhi, the Indian Capital. He stress on reporting on grass root level about grass root people specially on women. In the English category, Radheshyam Jadhav of The Times of India, Pune recieved the Award.Vibhash Kumar Jha of Chattisgarh got the prize in the Hindi category.The Prize has given to Tamil journalist, Pon Dhanasekaran of Dinamalar in other indian language. Rita sareen, the Indian Head of The Hunger Project, noted Film actor and director Ms. Revati also spoke on this occassion.

 A FREELANCE journalist writing on development issues of Orissa has become the first Oriya citizen to win the prestigious Sarojini Naidu National Award – one of the prestigious award in journalism in India. This award is instituted by The Hunger Project, an international organistion working for development of poor and grass-root people.

Akhand, an independent journalist, won the special jury citation award for best reporting on women in local Governance in Orissa. He is also a citizen journalist of the leading news portal, merinews.com.

Akhand was selected for his article in regional Oriya language ’Another Rebati of this Century’ published by Lokachetana, an Oriya weekly.
