Prisoners on Strike? When people go on strike it is usually a stoppage of what they do for a living against their employer!

What will Prisoners do on Strike? Stop Committing Crimes?

As far as I am concerned perhaps Canada as now found a deterrent! "Commit a Crime, No Smokes for You! "
Criminal who smoke I am sure will think twice if the one liberty they enjoued in prison is banned. What will prisoners use as currency now that smokes are illegal.
But then for behavious modification, I am sure Guards can stop a Prison Riot Pronto, by just throwing a few cartons of smokes into the prison yard. If I were a Prison Guard I would throw out Virginia Slims.

But then Who cares about Prisoners, who didn't care about committing crimes against us? Not Me!

A Nova Scotia prison remains under lockdown Wednesday after its inmates stopped going to programs or work placements to protest a national smoking ban.

Prisoners at the medium-security Springhill Institution in Springhill, N.S. -- about 200 kilometres north of Halifax -- began their strike Monday.

The key issue is a federal ban on the use of tobacco products in prisons that went into effect on May 20. Cigarettes are no longer available at Springhill's canteen.

Prisoners who smoke have been forced to quit cold turkey, while guards and staff are being given both time and designated areas to smoke, according to the John Howard Society.
