"A nuclear Iran is in Russia's direct self-interest."  Canadian blogger

Is Iran receiving technical and diplomatic help in its "nuclear program"?  Many think this has been clear for some time,  and remains unspoken in the hopes that silence will be the golden fix which makes it not be true.

Israel has been making this claim for nearly 2 months.  I wrote about it here on Now Public as well.

What is less clear is why would Russia do this? Angering America, having a nuclear-tipped madman next door, all of these things and others besides have been held up as reasons why it is not in Russia’s best interest to cooperate with the US on preventing Iran from getting nukes.

I contend that these things are viewed as small potatoes to the current occupants of the Kremlin. They have bigger fish to fry. Even the profit Russians makes off selling Iran their nuclear expertise and anti-aircraft systems like the S-300 sirface-to-air missile are piddling.

The real reason is that Russia wants to goad Iran into starting a nuclear war with Israel. Sure 100,000 Jews will die in Tel Aviv and 20,000,000 Persians will die in the inevitable counterattack, but just think how high the price of oil will go if there were nuclear war in the Persian Gulf region! If oil rises to $300 per barrel, imagine how much money Gasprom will make. And those rich, effete Europeans? They will lie prostrate at Vladimir Putin’s feet. Stalin was able to take Eastern Europe, Stalin-worshiper Putin will be able to extend Russia’s empire to the French Riviera. That’s their goal.

And if you think that the Putin gang doesn’t think in such horrible terms, you are almost naive enough to be President of the United States.

Thanks rng

I didnt want to be the one to say it!

Nuclear war is not in anyone's interest and risks WW3 from which no one profits.

The Russians don't need a nuclear war.  They just need the threat of one.

Simple, fundamental global chess.  The roooshuns excel at chess.

Smoke....that Old cowpoke must have told you,  tee hee...;)   Yes,  that illustrates it perfectly.  They create a danger which is just for their own purposes.  You are so right.........:(

Iran should not arouse concern. Georgia is the most dangerous flashpoint. The Bible says: "At the appointed time [the king of the north = Russia] will return back [will regain the influence, which it lost after the break-up of the Soviet Union] and come into the south [many indicate that this might be Georgia], but it will not be as the former [1921] or as the latter [2008]. For the dwellers of coastlands of Kittim [the West] will come against him, and he will be humbled, and will return." (Daniel 11:29,30a) Then Iran will be humbled also. "But ships will come from the direction of Kittim, troubling Asshur [Russia] and troubling Eber [inhabiting on the other side the Euphrates]." (Numbers 24:24a, BBE) At that time, peace will be taken from the earth and the "great sword" - nuclear sword - will be used. (Revelation 6:4) However, it will be neither the great tribulation nor "the end of the world" (Armageddon). As Jesus foretold, that will be "the beginning of birth pains". (Mathew 24:7,8) If the Heavens planned a full return of Russia (and much suggests this) the present economic crisis will deepen. Then also the European Union and NATO will not stands. In the same way the earlier prophecy had fulfilled: "And (he) [the king of the north = Russia] will go back (to) his land with great wealth [1945]; and his heart (will be) against the holy covenant [state atheism]; and will act effectively; and turned back to his own land [the break-up of the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact, the return of Russian troops to country]." (Daniel 11:28)
