Twas nothing here

The headline is a quote from Old Dominion. If they were expecting a Category 3 hurricane and a Category 1 showed up and depleted to a tropical storm, and they had more power outages than “expected,” what does that say about their planning?

“News Alert: More than 1 million without power in Mid-Atlantic region
August 28, 2011 5:29:07 AM

More than a million homes and businesses in the Mid-Atlantic region were still out of power or phone service early Sunday as heavy wind and rain from Hurricane Irene battered the Washington area.

In Virginia and North Carolina, Dominion Resources reported more than 1 million outages, including about 124,000 in northern Virginia as of 4:30 a.m. Power companies reported more than 600,000 outages in Maryland and more than 25,000 in D.C.

The number of outages in Virginia “exceeded our expectations,” a Dominion Power official said.

This was a little more than a sustained rain storm. Old Dominion needs to perform more like “The New Dominion” power company.
