NY Times Describes Reactions to War in Gaza Town of El Altara
The NY Times contains a great article regarding Israeli actions in El Altara during the Gaza war, "In Shattered Gaza Town, Roots of Seething Split"
They interview residents and Israeli soldiers and describe how each side views and reacts to the fighing that took place in the town. I found this sentance interesting because I think it shows a sense of discombobulation among the Palestinians:
"Palestinians almost never question the legitimacy of firing rockets at Israeli civilians as a form of resistance, and seemed shocked that Israel would go to war over it."
I say discombobulation because if you fire rockets into a country you should expect a response. Also, note that Palestinians think it's OK to fire on Israeli civilians.
There's much more to the article and I suggest reading it to understand the emotions on both sides and why achieving peace will be difficult.
