NYC Protest Turns Violent: Police Beat Up Demonstrators

The "Occupy Wall Street" protest in New York City's Union Square turned violent as the police attacked members of the crowd. Video shows police officers assaulting members of the public, as well as using pepper spray. Over 100 people were arrested.

Originally denying that officers carry tear gas, the NYPD clammed up when confronted with eyewitness video of a cop, identified as Anthony Bologna, using pepper spray on protesters. The NYPD also carried on the American police tradition of going after photographers, despite the facts that 1) recording the police has been declared legal time and again, and 2) everyone at the demonstration has a camera-phone anyway.

The NYPD is working hard to maintain its reputation for violence against the public. Check out the photos and video below and decide for yourself: does the NYPD need to be brought to heel?
