NYPD charge IMF Boss charged with 'sex crime'
Police in New York have charged the Head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, with a criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment. The charges relate to an alleged attack on a maid in his room at a hotel in Manhattan. Mr. Strauss-Kahn's lawyer has said he intends to plead not guilty. France woke up to the shocking news and momentous news story because Mr. Strauss-Kahn is a man very much in the public front eye, though not yet officially a candidate for France's next year presidential election, but he is the socialist front runner. At the very moment of his arrest an opinion poll was declaring him as France next president. All that ambition has now come crashing down. Whatever happens in the judicial case in New York, Mr. Strauss-Kahn political career in France is over.
