An NYPD Helicopter Had to Make An Emergency Landing on Wednesday in Jamaica Bay

It is unclear at this time what caused the helicopter to have to make a quick landing in the water, but it went down near the police aviation base in Brooklyn according to NYDaily News. The craft was on its way to the base at Floyd Bennett Field.

NBC New York spoke to one official who described the incident as a 'soft landing amid problems'. The helicopter reportedly had a mechanical problem but they were able to deploy flotation devices.

The incident occurred just after 4pm, in Jamaica Bay near Floyd Bennett Field.

Five police officers were inside the chopper when it landed. There were no serious injuries.
