October 11th
We left home at 3:15 in the morning and arrived in North Philly about 5:15. We then stood in line for over an hour and in the crowd waiting for another hour and 1/2. . .but it was SO worth it to hear Obama speak. It's hard to describe the atmosphere in line and in the crowd. Everyone was excited and positive. There was this tiny, tiny black woman in the crowd just in front of us. She had to stand up on her toes to see. Somehow, she managed to find a spot where she could see clearly. When she did, she turned to Ethan and told him to come over. This little old woman lifted Ethan up so he could clearly see Obama. What is remarakable is that he was nearly as big as he was. She said it was important for him to see the next president. I wish I had had the presence of mind to snap a picture, but I was too blown away by this woman's generosity. No one in this crowd shouted rude things about The-Opponents-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. (Okay, we booed, but that was it.) Obama's words were of hope and the future, not hate and tearing people down. I drug my kids out of bed and took them to see history. Yeah, it was worth it.
