"Today, our President Obama has said he was going to address the Children of America.  There is one group of America's who are concerned that this amounts to an political indoctrination of young persons in v various stages of there intellectual development.  On another side, are ardent supporters of Obama who dismiss who Carte' Blanche dismiss criticism of President Obama addressing the children of America.

The fact of the matter is that both sides fail to respect the legitimate side of the other side.

On its face, I have no problem with any American President addressing the Children of America.  I think it would be a great opportunity to partially address some of the problems and symptoms of our America Public Schools.  Encouraging Children to set goals, to endeavor to persevere despite adversity, to make no excuses to permit themselves to fail, to be creative and self sufficient are all wonderful goals, attitudes and aspirations to instill in our children - especially with the inspirational awe one uniquely respected such as our American President uniquely possesses.  Persons who criticize the president for purely the purpose of being a political tactic, should be reviled and cast aside.

But there are a group of us who have legitimate reason to be concerned with the true intent of President Obama.  Originally, President Obama said he was going ask each child to write a letter explaining how they could help the president.  This original intent seems...."

Hi Amy, sometimes the tools works and sometimes it does not.

I always try to make it work 1 or 2 times before I give up.

Why is this such a big deal?  If my memory is corect many previous Presidents addressed school children.  Wasn't it GWB who was reading an upside down book when the 911 planes hit the towers?  I also seem to recall GHWB and Reagan addresing school children.  I read the text of the address and didn't find it at all alarming.

eastanvay: I agree that it's really not a big deal.  But when President Bush addressed school kids in 1991, the congressional Democrats made a big stink over it and actually held congressional hearings as a result. And Bush Sr. was in no way a hard-core right winger. There's hypocrisy on both sides of the political spectrum and no single political party or politician is pure as the driven snow like the ideologues would have us believe. My opinion on the matter is that if parents don't want their kids listening to a politician, then they should have the right to opt their kids out of listening to that politician. Left wing or right wing it doesn't make any difference. Whether those parents are stupid or ignorant or reactionary isn't the point. The point is that some parents simply don't like President Obama's policies and the people that he's surrounded himself with because they honestly believe that he's presiding over a radical administration with Marxist tendencies. This is no different from the liberal/progressive parent's beliefs (and I knew many) that had an extreme hatred for not only Ronald Reagan, but for anyone that wasn't a Democrat.
