Obama and Bush: Deja Vu Again on the Budget
................................................
"Republican leaders continued their attacks on President Barack Obama’s handling of the economy Tuesday, calling it irresponsible. Republicans said the president relies too heavily on spending, and not enough on tax cuts, to try to revive the gasping economy. Their criticisms were sharp and plentiful. "The way to lead is not to raise taxes and put more money and power in hands of Washington politicians,” said Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, "The stimulus bill by Obama will expand the government, “increase our taxes down the line, and saddle future generations with debt. "It’s irresponsible,” "
It appears that history is repeating itself with a role reversal thrown in.
Today democrats are saying president Obama's plans are necessary to correct the excesses of the previous republican administration under president Bush. Republicans are saying Obama's budget policies and spending are irresponsible and will saddle future generations with masive debt repayments. Democrats are saying Bush is to blame for the current economic mess and that Obama is new to the office of president and he deserves more tome to show his policies are working.
Now we need to look back eight years at what democrats were saying about Bush in his first year as president.

Thanks for this story. Seems to me both criticize each other for doing the same things. Very fairly done

True. There is little difference.

The problem is as with much of the rest of this world, politicians have promised too much, without being willing to raise the money to pay for all that was promised. The solution: Spend less. Or tax more. Or do both.
However in a democracy is no accountability, in order to get elected politicians has to promise more and more 'benefits.' There is no backing up or turning around, even when the government is clearly heading into bankruptcy, as is the case nowadays. If a politician hesitates, some other one will just take his place. He will not go on record to tell people: "Look, we'd like to continue these programs; but we don't have the money."
Politicians surely are capable of making rational decisions. But what is rational for them – ducking serious issues or nourishing the illusion that voters can get something for nothing. And that is exactly the fatal error in their behaviour.

Very good comment.
I agree. Politicians over promise to get elected and will not be honest as to the costs and who will pay.
The answer is better informed voters.

When people vote they should remember that elections are fraudulent because of popular promises that cannot be fulfilled by their favorite political choice. The capable ones seldom make irresponsible promises, why they aren't elected. Consequently we end up with second rate people in government. Sick!

I agree.
Maybe politicians should be charged with perjury.

Unfortunately the government is not capable to handle crisis with adequate experts.
People are misled, and that will continue until we all are gone down the drain!
