In the waning days of the 2008 presidential campaign, legal U.S. voters are faced with the following gut-wrenching question -- who do you trust?

With the financial well-being of the nation at stake, the economy has moved front-stage center, yet embedded in the economy issue are collateral issues of national security, national identity, and survival of the Republic form of government. The day that Congress passed the bailout bill, a journalist chortled, “Well, we are all socialists now.” This chilling response has cast a shadow on the presidential election, even as the candidates chant their “change” mantra. Unfortunately, too much is changing too fast.

Sen. Barack Obama, that would-be agent of change, remains an unknown quantity. Gov. Sarah Palin on the campaign trail raises a legitimate question, “Who is Barack Obama?” She dares to question the relationship between Obama and William Ayers, the domestic terrorist, who was a proud member of the Weather Underground Organization (WUO) in the 1960s and 1970s. Ayers is proud of taking part with the Weathermen in bombing U.S. government buildings in the 1960s and 1970s. Yet the Palin questions have hit a nerve. Irate Democrats are crying “smear tactics,” “despicable right-wing hatred,” “character assassination,” and “That was 40 years ago; Obama was just a lad of 8.” Democrats protesteth too much. The following questions are valid: What did Obama know about Ayers, and when did he know it?

Palin raised the questions but stopped at providing the answers, so here are a few. The more-than-casual relationship between Ayers and Obama extends back at least 16 years.

Ayers is the son of Thomas Ayers, wealthy former CEO of Commonwealth Edison (now Exelon) -- the energy giant serving Northern Illinois. Thomas Ayers was a mover and shaker of Chicago cultural, financial, political, and social circles. The Daley machine has run Chicago politics for 40 years, and Thomas Ayers became the gray eminence of Daley machine politics and Chicago society -- a gray eminence that an ambitious young politician like Obama would have sought out. Bill Ayer’s brother John has said that his father “believed in change.” Thomas Ayers died in his Hyde Park home in 2007 at 92 years of age.

Williams Ayers, now a professor of English at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) and his partner Bernandine Dohrn were both members of WUO, which began as a violent and extremely radical breakaway from the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS). The Weathermen were responsible for deaths, robberies, and mayhem as part of a communist/anarchy scheme to “change” the U.S. government. Dohrn now teaches at Northwestern Law School. Thomas Ayers was in a position to grease the wheels in getting them their present teaching positions, despite their federal indictments as domestic terrorists.

On the day of 9/11, Bill Ayers wrote in The New York Times: “I don’t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn’t do enough.” Such statements and writings establish that he remains an anti-American seeking “change” in the U.S. form of government. From his powerful father, William Ayers may well have learned that “change” comes from within the system, and he still does not rule out violence as a mode of “change.”

Paths Cross in Chicago

Obama and Ayers had their first documented meeting in Chicago in April 1992 at a public gathering sponsored by the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC) and the Center for Public Intellectuals. The topics included “Intellectuals: Who needs them?” and “Intellectuals in Times of Crisis.” Among the panelists were Obama, Ayers, and Bernadette Dohrn. Ayers and Obama had much in common, for Ayers’ checkered past included work as a community organizer in Cleveland, Ohio.

The following year in 1993, Obama was appointed to the board of directors of the Woods Foundation, an ultra-liberal philanthropy. Ayers also sat on the board.

On Nov. 20, 1994, the University of Chicago held a panel discussion on juvenile justice, and the main attraction was Ayers. Obama was also a panel member. Michelle Obama, associate dean of student services and director of the University of Chicago Community Service Center, organized the event.

The Chicago Annenberg Challenge

In 1995, the Annenberg Foundation awarded a grant of $48.2 million to a proposal submitted by Ayers, Anne Hallet, and Warren Chapman to reform Chicago’s public schools. The project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), thus was created and added millions of dollars from other foundations, including the Woods Foundation, for a total budget of nearly $100 million. Obama, just four years out of law school, was appointed CAC president by his buddy Ayers. Obama served as CAC president until 1999 and then filled a seat on the CAC board of directors until 2001. As CAC president and then board member, Obama oversaw millions of dollars passed into community organizing and radical educational entities. Ayers, as co-founder of CAC, was the day-to-day decision-maker in constant contact with Obama, especially signing checks for CAC recipients, including the infamous voter fraud organization, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), and also the Developing Communities Project, for whom Obama had worked. Obama also had worked as a paid instructor for ACORN and later provided legal counsel to the group. Obama was an ACORN mouthpiece.

The CAC grant proposal included a vision by Ayers of school reform founded upon community organizing, grass-roots action, participatory democracy, and “change” in the existing public school structure. The whole purpose of CAC was to radicalize public education away from the fundamentals of reading, writing and mathematics and toward brainwashing children that the United States of America is an imperialistic, war-mongering, racist nation and that violence is the answer. Evaluators of CAC, after the fact, determined that the $100 million boondoggle presented no evidence of educational improvement. Just where did all those millions go?

After CAC closed down, Obama served on a successor group for “change” called the Leadership Council of the Chicago Public Schools Education Fund. And guess who served with him -- Ayers’ brother John and their father Thomas.

Obama’s State Senate Campaign

In 1996, when Obama announced his candidacy for the Illinois Senate, guess who hosted a candidate’s party at his residence -- Ayers, who donated $200 to the Obama campaign. During Obama’s first political campaign, Anton “Tony” Rezko, a Chicago political player, originally from Lebanon, was his main finance person. Rezko, who with his wife, assisted the Obamas in the purchase of their Hyde Park home, recently was convicted in federal court of bribery and money laundering.

During the 2008 Democratic presidential primaries, Obama replied to a query about his relationship with Ayers by claiming that he knew him but only slightly as a man in the neighborhood whose children attended the same school as the Obama children. Now Ayers and Bernandine have two sons, Malik, named for Malcolm X, and Sayd, named for a Black Panther killed in a shootout with New Jersey police. Both are in their late 20s or early 30s. Obama’s children, however, are 9 and 6 and not likely to be attending school with the Ayers children. This incident is an example of Obama’s evasiveness regarding his relationship with Ayers.

Conclusion

If elected president, the real Barack Obama will shed his chameleon facade. With the cult-like support of a Democrat Congress, a Democratic news media, a Democratic academia, and a Democratic cadre of billionaire globalists, Obama will set out to “change” the United States into a socialist environment, and we will all be socialists then.

1.   What precisely was the nature of Senator Obama’s relationship with convicted real estate developer Tony Resko? Why did he engage in a real estate deal with Rezko when he was under federal investigation? What “advice” did he give Obama about buying a house in Chicago?

2.   Why has Obama proclaimed that he has been fighting alongside ACORN, a radical leftwing organization, his “entire career”?

3.   What exactly has been Obama’s experience with ACORN?

4.   What was the nature of the “training” Obama provided to ACORN activists in Chicago?

5.   What exactly occurred during the “actions” that Obama organized as a community organizer?    Did the “actions” involve intimidation by any of the participants Obama led?

Thanks Terri... and for the flag! Have been struggling with -- "to stay, or not to stay, that is the question?" The reality is that nobody's mind is actually changed when one (such as myself) tries to impose my opinions on other, or others try to impose theirs on me. The one clear vision that does shine through is that this format is too wide in it's spectrum of participants. Which brings to mind Rudyard Kipling's "The Ballad of East and West". .

Interesting - though full of mis information.

According to the New York Timesarticle that Palin and McCain have tried to quote - The two men were not close. I quote:

Mr. Obama’s friends said that history was utterly irrelevant to judging the candidate, because Mr. Ayers was never a significant influence on him. Even some conservatives who know Mr. Obama said that if he was drawn to Ayers-style radicalism, he hid it well.

“I saw no evidence of a radical streak, either overt or covert, when we were together at Harvard Law School,” said Bradford A. Berenson, who worked on the Harvard Law Review with Mr. Obama and who served as associate White House counsel under President Bush. Mr. Berenson, who is backing Mr. McCain, described his fellow student as “a pragmatic liberal” whose moderation frustrated others at the law review whose views were much farther to the left.

Some 15 years later, left-leaning backers of Mr. Obama have the same complaint. “We’re fully for Obama, but we disagree with some of his stands,” said Tom Hayden, the 1960s activist and former California legislator, who helped organize Progressives for Obama. His group opposes the candidate’s call for sending more troops to Afghanistan, for instance, “because we think it’s a quagmire just like Iraq,” he said. “A lot of our work is trying to win over progressives who think Obama is too conservative.”

Mr. Hayden, 68, said he has known Mr. Ayers for 45 years and was on the other side of the split in the radical antiwar movement that led Mr. Ayers and others to form the Weathermen. But Mr. Hayden said he saw attempts to link Mr. Obama with bombings and radicalism as “typical campaign shenanigans.”

“If Barack Obama says he’s willing to talk to foreign leaders without preconditions,” Mr. Hayden said, “I can imagine he’d be willing to talk to Bill Ayers about schools. But I think that’s about as far as their relationship goes.”

Which means that once again, the McCain / Palin campaign is spreading smoke and Mirrors...

And as if that wasn't enough CNN's Fact Check:

The Statement: Republican vice presidential candidate Gov. Sarah Palin said Saturday, October 4, that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is "someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country."

Which then goes on to say:

Verdict: False. There is no indication that Ayers and Obama are now "palling around," or that they have had an ongoing relationship in the past three years. Also, there is nothing to suggest that Ayers is now involved in terrorist activity or that other Obama associates are.

Folks - this is YET another of the typical Republican SCARE TACTICs that they're so known for. This goes on the list of

- Iraq (we must remove Saddam Hussein because he was somehow responsible for 9-11),

- the Patriot Act (we can spy on anyone without a warrant; and you can be tossed in jail under the charge of being a terrorist with NO trial - even without any miranda rights) which we had to pass because anything else would be unpatriotic

-the 700 Billion dollar bailout (wait - it's not a bailout - it's a "rescue plan") for wall street that *might* trickle down to the economy that McCain said was NOT in trouble just a few days before he "suspended" his campaign...and which was originally proposed with NO OVERSITE or CONSEQUENCES by the Bush Administration.

- Healthcare (we can't let the government choose which doctor / hospital you go to - yet we can let people go untreated b/c they don't have health insurance or their insurance doesn't pay for the doctor/hospital that is closest to them) Don't get me started - b/c I live in a socialized healthcare system and trust me - this IS NOT HOW IT WORKS when government is involved.

and that's just a few. I seriously don't understand how people can believe these things - nor how they can vote to continue the scare tactics instead of looking at the positive future, equality, and programs / policies that Obama offers.

No, Mrs. Palin and Mr McCain, I don't see the world as you do. I'm glad.

You know why? Because I'm NOT SCARED. Not scared to get on with my life, not scared to travel and meet the real people on the planet. Not scared to tell you YOU ARE WRONG, DISTORTING THE TRUTH, AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED of YOURSELF.

For all Mrs Palin's wanting to "focus on issues" - that's what her criticism was to Katie Couric's interview - she is now trying to avoid those issues...and fan the flames of Fear for Votes.

Thanks for you input Phoenix & Dunkel... questions ALL raised in print and by many in the vocal and TV medias. All the citizens are asking is to hear it from the horse's mouth himself, so as, personally to set my own mind at ease. The questions have been raised, but they are being answered by confederates placing their own spin on the issues... this is unacceptable from both conservation or liberal, democrat or republican, left or right leaning. Then I/We can make-up our own minds, as to the TRUTH -- fair enuf'? This goes for ALL of em' nobody should be exempt!

If you read the new york times article I linked to (or the CNN one) Obama has publicly commented on this. He hasn't expressed any sympathy for Ayers calling him:

“somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.”

If that's not saying Obama doesn't agree with Ayers, I don't know what that is.

Plus, what gain is there in Obama answering these stupid accusations anyhow? There's alot more to talk about - than to acknowledge these things.

This is like me saying you had a school teacher who was a child molester 20 years ago, so you must have supported his actions too! Thereby, you're ineligible to run for office.

Or, McCain sure spent an awful lot of time in Vietnam - behind enemy lines. He must be a communist sympathizer who gave them American secrets so the North Vietnamese could win the war.

Both of those are absurd as well!

Oh - and by the way, his name is Ayers - not Ayer's.

Dunkie... Oh - and by the way have seen his name in print, as Ayer, Ayers, and Ayer's – do you know him personally? If not, then any spelling is acceptable to me. If, you seek uniform change suggest you make your point with those in the media who have either spelled it correctly or, incorrectly! And have one up on you... as I remember the activities of the 60's, the Weather Underground, Black Panther movements, Patty Hurst, Jane Fonda, et al, and they remain as radical today as they were back then. They remind me of a Paul Simon song, they’re… “Still Crazy After All These Years!

The question that always eludes me is "how" do these individuals who suffer from questionable moral turpitude become teachers of young minds? And that includes that wacko professor, Ward Churchill in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 />Colorado. Apparently, any criminal having served his/her sentence is welcomed "open-arms" in America's educational system. Reckon we'll see the like of bin Ladin, and other in the years ahead -- that is "IF" they don't kill the SOB first!

I have met Ayers on two occassions. He is smart, married to a former fugitive terrorist and was/is friends with Obama. He was connected personally, publicaly via 2 non-profits. But that's Chicago politics.

As the Mayor recently said, to paraphrase, SO WHAT! HMMM. There are so many whats with people that Obama has played with that his sandbox is full of racists,radical leftests, and anti-semites. It smells from all the crap they have been a part of during his years as a polticaian from Chicaga. My mis-spelling. As far as McCain is concerned he may have known or even rubbed shoulders with some crazies but his sand box is open for all to see. Warts and all. Obama's connections are pretty much a state secret. If he becomes president we ALL have a right to know who the hell he pals with.

Phoenix... you just don't get it! That isn't an answer... Obama being 8 years of age in 1961, when Ayers and his wife committed dispicable cowardly acts of terrorism! It's from the time when they first met in Chicago, when Obama was an adult or possibly Columbia University in New York, until the present.

Your arguement is like saying... "If there is an 8 year old child (today) that will run for President in 40-years, and at the same time has befriended Osama bin Ladin along the way, then that's alright!" You had better rethink your arguement!!!

Thanks Tikum for the support and flag. Some just don't seem to get it. Obama does, that's why he won't answer the questions... he just keeps tap dancing to his own tune. His campaign would love to keep the topic centered on the economy, but time may run-out before election day and the sheeple's attention may become diverted to his being qualified to lead. The more he doesn't answer the questions the less TRUST he displays... his character is in question and the groundswell will continue to rise!!!

Ayers prosecutor says Obama-Ayers link is ludicrous. If any party is to blame for Ayers being free, it is the Republican Party.

William C. Ibershof, who in 1973 tried to convict the former radical, is 'amazed and outraged' over John McCain's attempts to raise doubts about Barack Obama. By Gale Holland, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
October 13, 2008 One of the more unusual voices to emerge in the clamor over the character attacks in the presidential race belongs to William C. Ibershof, a former federal prosecutor who now lives near San Francisco.

In 1973, Ibershof tried to put William Ayers, a founding member of the Weather Underground, in prison for an alleged conspiracy to bomb political targets. Ayers, now an education professor in Chicago, has become a fixture in John McCain's attempt to raise doubts about Barack Obama.

So Ibershof wrote a letter to the New York Times, saying he was "amazed and outraged" that Obama was being linked to the former radical's terrorist activities, which occurred when "Mr. Obama, was, as he has noted, just a child."

Ibershof, a registered Democrat, has donated about $200 to Obama's presidential campaign, but the 73-year-old former prosecutor said nobody put him up to his protest.

"I came to this gradually but surely watching the campaign," Ibershof said. "It just didn't make any sense to me."

In the letter, Ibershof also defends his reputation, taking issue with the characterization that the case against Ayers was dismissed for "prosecutorial misconduct." The government dropped the case after the Nixon administration's "illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions," were exposed, he said.

But before the trial even began, some of the defense lawyers asserted their offices had been broken into and searched, Ibershof said.

He also discovered the government had illegally bugged some of the defendants. "I had a sizable room full of files with wiretaps that were not obtained by court order," he said.

The illegal tactics were ordered by Atty. Gen. John N. Mitchell and FBI assistant director W. Mark Felt, who was later unmasked as the Watergate scandal's "Deep Throat," Ibershof said. They were part of a plan, exposed during the Watergate hearings, to use "espionage techniques" to gather intelligence on domestic foes.

Even after the revelations, Ibershof believed that he could have prevailed. But after a federal judge ordered a sweeping hearing on the burglary and surveillance charges, the government decided in 1973 to drop the case in the interests of national security, he said.

McCain supporters have denounced Ayers as an "unrepentant terrorist." Ibershof said he believes people deserve a chance to redeem themselves, "a human reaction anyone would have."

Domestic spying? Silence on wrongdoing because of "national security"? Sound familiar?

Ayers prosecutor: "I am amazed and outraged".

Re “Politics of Attack” (editorial, Oct. 8) and “Obama and ’60s Bomber: A Look Into Crossed Paths” (front page, Oct. 4):

As the lead federal prosecutor of the Weathermen in the 1970s (I was then chief of the criminal division in the Eastern District of Michigan and took over the Weathermen prosecution in 1972), I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was, as he has noted, just a child.

Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.

Because Senator Obama recently served on a board of a charitable organization with Mr. Ayers cannot possibly link the senator to acts perpetrated by Mr. Ayers so many years ago.

I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of “prosecutorial misconduct.” It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.

The issue is not if Obama as a child is linked to Ayers. It is his activities as an adult in Chicago political arena. If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck just maybe it is a DUCK. DUH!

This is not a matter of discrediting Obama it is just the truth about the relationship and their financial dealings as members of two non-profits that gave millions away to organizations such as Acorn to name just one. I think no matter who is president it is in the peoples interest who our President has been hanging out with. A fair question. The problem is that all the media has supported or tried to discredit the relationship depending on their political point of view. All I want is the TRUTH. That appears to be a state secret.

Dunk... Wow, your so enlightening! You got it... he (Ayers) was given a presidential pardon, so he could pal around with McCain, so as, to aid in his campaign! The facts are that Obama has had a longtime friendship with Bill Ayers, but like everyone who comes out of the gutters that Obama has associated with (drawing heat)... he quickly tries to clean-up by distancing himself, or claims he didn't know them. In the case of Rev. Wright, where he showed-up for years to listen to his surmons of hate... once exposed... he said, "I can no more turn my back on this man, than I could on my own grandmother." His grandmother who refuses to speak to the press, but could answer a lot of questions also raised him. Then when the heat got turned-up... he dumped Rev. Wright like a bad memory. Even the Rev. turned on Obama, until he was shut-up by Obama's henchmen!

This man's character is in question... he doesn't pass the smell test... because there is something rotten in his camp, his associations with criminals (Ayers, Rezko, others), the crooked Chicago political machine, known for their shifty back-room deals and union thugs! It all smells and stinks to high-heaven... this guy is NOT quilified to be elected dog-catcher let alone President of the United States. The more I hear the more I dis-TRUST... if, he doesn't start talking soon the groundswell of public opinion will continue to rise and Obama will fall from grace as leader of the Democratic party.
