8-14-2006 - Following his 50th town hall meeting in Massac County. U.S. Senator Obama poses in front of the Superman Statue in downtown Metropolis, IL. known as the home of the DC Comics super hero.

Looks as though SuperBam has run into some Kryptonite.

Okay, he said something dumb and now he has to live with it.

He didn't know that only Republicans are allowed to pander to working class, pretending to understand them and to be one of them.

Here is how Barack explained the working class of Pennsylvania to the rich of California, according the Huffington Post

.

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," Obama said. "And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Of course, many Obamdilloes are rallying to his defense, saying (among other stupid things) "he was only telling the truth". These people are, of course, the middle-to-upper-income types who are the backbone of the Obama campaign. Many of these folks have never known "working class" and certainly would not invite one home for tea. These are the same who would characterize Obama as "middle class".

Of course, they may be right. Once Boy George Bush gets through with the economy, the upper middle to rich may become the middle class, leaving us with the ultra rich, middle class and various degrees of poor.

Oh, there also are the conspiracy theorists who blame it all, as usual, on the Clinton campaign. Yawn.

Anyway, Obama got caught being condescending. His condescending supporters are now saying even more condescending things to defend him.

I only hope Senator Clinton is properly grateful and that the McCain/Bush campaign will say something nice about Barack and his Obamadilloes at the inaugural.

Thanks for the notice!

Many thanks. Oops....

But what is it about this comment that is condescending?  It is known that economic difficulties create frustration. Frustration creates a zillion different outcomes, including bitterness. It seems to me like this speech was more like - "these regions have been ignored, shouldn't we be helping?"

Yes I agree in terms of the second comment he made on the matter - the one that is posted above. However, I thought his first comment was uncalled for and seemed to be a little ignorant, although it's always easy to sit on the outside and say that.

Let me put it this way...He had them at "bitterness".  However, his mistake was he kept talking.  Not only did he keep talking, he threw in some amateur sociology. He is a better bowler than a sociologist.

The gun culture, religion, distrust of outsiders and the other items he mentioned are not the result of bitterness.  For many, they are ingrained into their being.  Others simply grew up in and around those folks and just accept them.  To try to label guns and religion (and the rest of it) as places they go only out of bitterness and frustration is like saying - "Well, they know better than to do that, but they are to be excused because of their bitterness over the failed economy".

The fact he said to to a bunch of Nob Hill type nobs did not help at all.
