President Obama defended the Ground Zero Mosque building near the World Trade Center where innocent Americans died by Al-Qaeda. Obama’s reasoning is that the Muslims have religious freedom just as others and that Muslims should not be related to terrorism.

Obama’s reasoning is sound but Christians should also have the right to build churches in Mecca and medina. Is that not?

US President Barack Obama has staunchly defended controversial plans to build a mosque near Ground Zero in New York.

Opponents have protested against the construction of an Islamic cultural centre and mosque several hundred feet away from the site of the Twin Towers.

Mr Obama acknowledged "sensitivities" surround the 9/11 site, but said Muslims have the same right to practice their religion "as anyone else".

"Our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable," Mr Obama said.

Since a New York developer announced plans to build a 13-storey Islamic community centre and mosque about two blocks from the former World Trade Center site, prominent Republican politicians and a host of conservative pundits have attacked the project.

Some relatives of people killed in the terror attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001 are also opposed to the plan.

No it is not a right in Mecca and Medina. Those places are ruled by a monarchy with a theocratic, one religion of the State. The United States on the other hand, has a Constitution which separates religion from state sanction, and allows citizens to worship (or not), freely. It would seem from the polling being reported in the US that a majority of Americans have lost sight of this distinction.

It looks like his engrish grammar is lacking a little. Perhaps what he intended was: "Obama’s reasoning is sound but Christians should also have the right to build churches in Mecca and medina. Is that not so?"Meaning that if they have the privilege here, then we  should be allowed to build churches (and synagogues) in muslim lands. That will not happen, as muslims are so afraid of dissent, that it simply cannot be allowed. Can't have the peasants asking hard questions, now can we?

Building and funding schools to educate children in knowledge and skills that will enable them to survive and to succeed in the world is far more important at this juncture in human history. My friends in Africa and elsewhere should put their energy and intellect behind this specific purpose -- educate the children -- not with mythological obsolescence and historical hatred, but with contemporary knowledge and skills.

There is no time for developing people to repeat the mistakes of past people or to take a normal progression to improve. They must leap ahead, or forever be left behind.

Please keep your racist thoughts to yourself, Ferdinand.

woompapa1, please point out alleged "racism". Upon re-reading, i still don't see any.Being aware of the fact that islam is a nasty, violent, bigoted, closed-minded, "religion", hardly makes me a racist.  It does mean that i am familiar with their lies.

Here I am different from my Lord Jesus! Jesus say when one beats one of your cheeks, dont refuse to give the other! I am the follower of Jesus or Christianity. But I dont accept this statement of His.

If I allow the Muslims to build their Mosques near my Holy Church I worship, they should also allow me to build my Church near their Holy Mosque (Mecca and Medina). Give and take should be the norm of life!
