Obama Donates $4,600 to Clinton Campaign; Mrs. Obama Pledges Gay Equality

UPDATE: Meanwhile, Michelle Obama promises a gay Democrats group that her husband will fight for gay equality. Given that Mrs. Obama is busy making policy and public statements, Mr. Obama is going to be hard-pressed, in any logical way, to continue to claim that the media and the public must keep "hands off" her comments and not analyze or criticize her. Hey, Mr. and Mrs. Obama, if you jump into the policy stew pot you're likely to get stirred.

This is the most shrewd publicity/public relations move I've ever seen for a mere $4,600.

Barack Obama announced Thursday that he will help pay off Hillary Rodham Clinton’s more than $20 million debt, personally writing a check in a gesture meant to win over her top financial backers.

Obama met with more than 200 of Clinton’s biggest fundraisers at Washington’s Mayflower Hotel, the first step in a two-day push to bring her supporters onboard his general election campaign. Behind the scenes, the two sides were negotiating her future involvement with the campaign.

PEP, um, I don't know what to say about this. I'm all for the First Lady (if they make it to the WH) having a say, although at the same time, she will not be the person who is elected. Therefore, I shall have to shhhh the feminist in me and suggest that Michelle Obama do a little less 'promising' on her husband's behalf. I wonder if she is going to be part of his cabinet (or whatever it's called over there).

Good point. I think that she's a loose cannon, to put it mildly. But if she chooses to speak about policy, then she's fair game for criticism and analysis. You can't play "yea, she talks the hard stuff" but "no, you can't comment on that because she's just  the little wife". Just another Obama hypocrisy, IMHO.

Yep, the cabinet. And then there's the "kitchen cabinet" of historical reknown in some administrations.

PEP, I like this story. It's good stuff.

According to an interview Mr. Obama had with the Advocate he is "Gay OK!" (Link to my piece on this from a while ago.)

Look, I don't know why people are surprised when stuff like this crops up. He is a politician and as a politician he wants to be liked by every constituency. And, according to that Advocate article, the LGBT community are big supporters of Obama sending him tons of money.

On a side note, what is it with First Ladies? No one elected you. If you want to run foundations and help people behind the scenes - that's great. But once you pass into policy issues, that's just plain wrong. We didn't vote for you.

Now, of course, as every man knows, the women in your life do play a gigantic role in what you do.

Good stuff PEP.

well uhm people should read the new testament- how jesus became what he is nowadays.

christianity as such formed 400 years after this incidents, but christian marriage was only introduced some centuries later.

without roots nothing can grow- and this also applies, if you (someone) abandons the roots where it comes from.

personally i am not religious- however, it is common customs to go to a church for marriage purpose.

so from what appears in the media, i can form an opinion about the candidates. if this continues, soon "Borat" stickers will be sold (false representation of religious roots).

in other words, i would like them (the candidates) to abandon these special population groups, but rather would like to hear about ideas for urban Detroit in the 21st century. is the situation going to continue, or in the words of McCain, "the broken system must be fixed"?

there are more special population groups- the poor, unemployed, war veterans etc.

from what i read it is not really clear who America will restore it's place in the world- but will watch the media in the near future. the irony is that personally i already think who will come next after Obama or McCain- they are only the people who will govern after Bush.

from what i read until now, i do not see anything really new. maybe what they do will proove off something different. for instance, no "Borat" marriages. OK after all, it is not limited to same sex partnerships.

Senator and Mrs. Obama each gave $2,300 to Senator Hillary Clinton's campaign. In turn, former President Clinton and Senator Clinton each donated $2,300 to Senator Obama's campaign.

As First Ladies go, according to former President Reagan staffer, Donald Regan, Nancy Reagan's habit of adjusting the late President Ronald Reagan's schedule to align with various aspects of the stars was, to say the least, at little beyond quirky.

Donald Regan, in the linked article here, says he had to keep track of when the President was allowed out of the White House, what were most favorable days for meetings, etc, with the 'lists' containing a guide to preferential timing having been provided by a few of the First Lady's astrological consultants.
